Lol, what NTSC-J machines do you own? And where did you got this idea that there's more MSX2+ systems then MSX2?
BTW: all eBay sellers who ship internationally can communicate in (somewhat broken but still quite intelligent) english...

You mean you could sell me one? In that case, YES, let's talk! And the games are equally important, too. Help with that would be good.

mje, if you buy an MSX2+ system from Europe, be sure to inquire if it still has the original power supply unit. Mine hasn't for example, it's got one which can handle 230V. It would save you a load of trouble...
About the games: eBay is really the best place to find them. You probably need to wait a bit for one to get auctioned, because they're not sold very frequently. Metal Gear 1 is by the way much cheaper and easier to get by than Metal Gear 2, because it was sold for a much longer time and earlier in the MSX history, and thus is not very rare. Also, a European version was made of Metal Gear 1 (with English text, although it probably runs in PAL mode). To play Metal Gear 2 in English, you'd have to get the translated disk version.

If you don't care very much about "originals" then I suggest you the following:
-Get an MSX2 with FDD in eBay. For example, Philips NMS8245 MSX2, about 45 euros
-Get an original Konami SCC cartridge. Don't care about the title. About 20 euros
-Send it to the MegaFlashSCC boys: they will convert it. About 60 euros.
With that staff you would be able to play ALL konami games in cartridge format, in english, japanese of what-so-ever.
Final price: about 120 euros. That is the price of the original SOLID SNAKE - METAL GEAR II for MSX. You should decide!

To be honest, the issue of it being original is kind of the point of me doing this. I'm a collector of sorts, and Metal Gear is one of my favorite series... soooo...
Finding those games is very tough.
Oh, and I could deal with the English translated Solid Snake. I don't care that much. But I'm just saying Japanese is OK.

Mind you, there is no original Konami english Solid Snake. It's an incredibly cool translation hack.

If he wanted to play a cracked metal gear he wouldn't be looking for a computer now would he? By the way... I saw an MSX Turbo-R ST (very good Japanese MSX2+ system) bundled with a Metal Gear (1) on yahoo auctions japan. It has a few other games too, I guess you could sell those to earn back some money... The seller will not ship internationally, but I guess that he could change his mind if you offered him a couple of dollars more... As a sign of gratitude you could give me the "Illusion City" that comes with it I guess Current bid is around $160... I guess if you were to offer him $200 or $250 it would still be pretty cheap. My guess is you can sell off the other games that come with it (Except ofcourse the Illusion City ) for at least $100. That would mean you're paying between $100 and $150 for an MSX Turbo-R plus an original Metal Gear. Not at all bad... |

I think my original post said I wouldn't care to have it in Japanese. I know there's no English version.

Err... Mr. mje... You're 'free Turbo-R' chance is about to end. The auction ends today... I'd really try to at least contact the guy... The current bid on his lot is around $160... I didn't want to go into details, cause I'm sure someone here will probably jump at the offer, but he's selling for around $260,- (asking price without shipping) - The Turbo-R you can use to play Metal Gear
- An original Metal Gear
- The Tower of Cabin (Sell for 25)
- Princess Maker (Sell for 35)
- SNATCHER (Sell for 100)
- XAK II (Sell for 25)
- Great Strategy 2 (Sell for 25)
- Illusion City (Give to me
or sell for 40 ) - Fleet Commander (Sell for 20)
- Konami Games Collection 3 (Sell for 20)
- Hydlide3 (Sell for 20)
Say you were to offer him his asking price, which no-one has done sofar, which is around $260. Just by selling off the games you don't really want (I assume) you will probably raise what you're paying the guy! And eventhough he doesn't ship internationally, I'm sure he'd go through the trouble for the extra $100. You'd basically get an MSX Turbo-R plus an original metal gear for free and would probably even cover most of the shipping and handling... I've heard of worse offers |
