As you seem to already count, how many times each software have been downloaded, I think, that it would be nice to see this information also after file size in downloads section.

To add the number of downloads for a file in the download section has been requested before. The reason given not to do this is it kind of encourages cheating with downloads to increase the number of a friend's file or something.

We're thinking of improving the downloads database a bit later this year, adding screenshots, LZH & DSK downloads where possible and probably also a rating system. Perhaps we'll even start showing the amount of downloads of each product by then

Just a little suggestion : to gain space on the server and reduce the download time, the DSK files should be zipped, but I presume that it's your intention !

If you start to display download counters, maybe it's nice to have the authors linked to their downloads so they can view them nicely in one page at all times?

... Or even common view to all: "Software sorted by author"

Download counters also helps developers to see, what kind of software is "most wanted" I actually don't see any reason for someone to "boost up" some downloads. (At least if you can not sort by download counter)

Espetially I like the idea of screenshots! You just can't remember all software by name. Maybe even "Authors comments" field could be implemented (?)

Yup an ' all downloads created by [name]' function is on the ToDo as well.

As for tampering with the downloads statistics: I thought the same about the poll. Then I had to build a cookie-checker, then an IP logger and now only registered members can vote to the poll, just because there are a few people who like to tamper with the results. That's why I'm a bit reluctant on posting the downloads-counters, as people can instanlty see if their actions have the desired effect or not.

I was more thinking about download stats for the files the creator made displayed to the creator. I only would like to know how many times my own creations were downloaded at that moment. It creates motivation to expand a tool, or make more music or graphics. Only people who have created something which is in the download database would be able to see the stats of just those downloads.

That would indeed be possible, as a similar block of code is already there for the webshop (people selling stuff can see how much they have sold, of course). I'll add it to the ' wouldn't it be nice' todo list
