"Damn the Dutch! I don't understand a crap of what they're saying!"

If that is your average thought whenever you see people speaking Dutch, I just noticed that nowadays Babelfish supports Dutch -> English (and vice versa) machine translation:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr

Another possibility is WorldLingo.com, but my impression was that the translation wasn't as good:
http://www.worldlingo.com/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html

I did some tests and I have to say I'm surprised how well the translations turned out. Better than the average translations from Spanish / Portuguese if you ask me...

"A Babel fish is a highly improbable biological universal translator. It appears as a "small, yellow and leechlike fish. When a Babel fish is inserted into the ear canal it allows the 'wearer' to "instantly understand anything said... in any form of language."

The short version of the Babel story:
The people of Babylonia were building a tower that would reach for the heavens. This upset God, and he made all the people speak different languages. They couldn't understand eachother anymore and the build of the tower of babel was stopped.

Long version, please test you translator:
Quote:

hehehehe...Actually, it's interesting huh. Why didn't God want there to be people who are unified, who can achieve things. He wanted confusion, apparently.

The way I heard the story God was pissed off because of the arrogance of the people to want to reach to heaven (home of God).

I tried, but it seems Namco didn't port their 'Tower of Babel' (NES) game to MSX... :\

Confusion was not his primary goal, maybe it's better to read the story in his context.

The people in those days thought they don't needed their God anymore. They wanted to show them selves how much they could achieve without God. Instead of trusting God they started trusting on their own knowledge and abilities. Heaven is the place were God lives so when they started building a tower wich would reach the heaven it was liek they said: Hi God, look at us now, we're just as powerfull and mighty as you.

In reaction God showed them that they were not mighty at all and they just had to trust him. By breaking their self created power God showed his people: just trust me, I give you everything you need.

Actually this is a kind of self repeating story, if you read the old testament you see this happening all the time.

10 God helps his people en gives them what they need. The people forget who gave them everything and start worshiping foreign gods and hurting their God. God punishes them like a wakeup call and the people turn back worshipping him. Everythings goes fine and after some years the people forget...
