Actually after Googling some japanese sites some more, I'm confused again. Most of them do seem to list Dragon Slayer Jr - Dragon Slayer III - Romancia as the same game.
I think my previous conclusion that Xanadu Scenario II was in fact DS 3 was a bit premature, as I see only one site listing it as such... Ofcourse sometimes only one site is right, and the rest is just repeating false facts like sheep
However, there is a Xanadu Scenario II "the resurrection of the dragon" released for PC88, PC98, X1, FM7.
I guess Xanadu Scenario II is similar to Dragon Slayer VI, which has Legend of Heroes 1 and 2, after which the Legend of Heroes series seems to have split off in its own direction.

| To complete the list:
DS 7 - Lord Monarch
DS 8 - Legend of Xanadu
|
These games are from which platform?
|
Lord Monarch: PC-98, FM-TOWNS, SFC, MD, Windows
Legend of Xanadu: PC-Engine
Apparently Legend of Xanadu II is also another game under the Dragon Slayer VIII name.
Falcom does know how to make things confusing, don't they? |

Xanadu Senario II was actually a extention like to Xanadu. Since Falcom spent a decent time in developing Xanadu, they had a quite a flexible system. So they decide to use the same system with new map/monster for it. So Senario II required Xanadu(1) to play and actually booted off it too.
Initially Falcom had a in house rule to give Dragon Slayer naming for ones that author "Yoshio Kiya" was involved but this changed eventually after he left Falcom. (So PCE Xanadu's are more like a spin off and YS series was never DS because of the different staff made them, but existed in similar time period.)

To make things even more confusing, Falcom has continued the thread 'The Legend of Heroes', started by what we know as Dragonslayer VI (subtitled The Legend of Heroes'). The last game I know of in this series, released last spring, is called Legend of Heroes 6 - Sora no Kiseki. See www.falcom.co.jp for more info... |

AFAIK the correct order would be:
Dragonslayer (c) developed by Square, bought off by Falcom
Dragonslayer 2 aka Xanadu
-------spin-off: Xanadu, scenario 2
Dragonslayer 3 aka Romancia aka Dragonslayer Jr.
Dragonslayer 4, Drasle Family
Dragonslayer 5, Sorcerian
Dragonslayer 6, Legend of Heroes
-------spin-off: Legend of Heroes series
Dragonslayer 7, Lord Monarch
Dragonslayer 8, Legend of Xanadu
I have Dragonslayer III, IV and VI myself...they weren't hard to find really.

Hmm now the big question.
KAZE NO DENSETSU XANADU II/ Legend of Xanadu 2 for the pc engine ?
Is that a spinoff our could we call this dragonslayer 9 ?
Also socerian has mutliple extra scenario's so they at least should be mentioned as spin-off.
FOr lord monarch ther is a free online downloadable version.

And it seems that it is a series.
Also there is Dragon Slayer II: Dorasure gaiden for the gameboy.
Maybe better use this list for falcom games.
It lists at Asteka 2-Temple of the Sun (Tombs and Treasure) for MSX anybody know more about this title ?

It was released on MSX as Templo del Sol, which is a literal translation of the Japanese name Taiyou no Shinden. No clue why falcom used a Spanish title though
[edit]
It makes sense Falcom used a Spanish name since it played in South-America in the Inka era |
