You can get the happy end by pausing the game with F1 ONCE.

Ad about the question... I won't ask. Just play the game normally. The only tip to get the real ending is simple. You must pause the game once during the game (I mean, only once). Oddly, it will work.
Sorry about spoiling the surprise. |

You can get the happy end by pressing F1 -pause- (4*n)+1 times while playing. I.e: 1,5,9, etc...
Bare in mind that if you continue after game over, pause counter resets.
I explained it here |

Why would anyone (Konami) make a game with two different endings, where the ending you'll see depends on the use of the Pause Button???
has anyone more information on this? (@Guillian: did you find this out by trying or have you found it in the code?)
[I've finished Penguin adventure once, on a 'real' msx, and remember a happy princess... so I must have been lucky then :-)]

Why?!
Why not!
It certainly made people guess a lot, a lot of free advertising!
If I were Konami, I would laugh my ass of if I read about people writing "you need to finish the stages with the maps all the first time through, and you cannot use tunnels" or people claiming "you must use all tunnels and get the secret items" |

Question? if you use Games Master to pause the game does the same thing happen ? Will you still fail? I have completed Penguin Adventure a few times. It is quite an acheivement, the running shoes are helpful, but i have never used the shortcuts when completing the game.

I have not checked it, but I think it will not work if you pause the game only using Game Master (STOP key).

@guillian: wow!
@guyveR800: If would have been a feature of Parodius, I'd understand, but now I wonder if there are other games with more than 1 ending :-)
