Hi all,

Today I wanted to use my Russian MSX network for some testing but unfortunatly I discovered that the YIS-805/128R2 has some problems. Firstly the screen kind of flickers slowly, it gets darker and a bit lighter, like a bit more and a bit less intens. After a wile it reboots and keeps doing that.

I use the RGB output via a turbo R video cable on a Philips CM8852 and a Philips color tv with SCART input.

Secondly I receive the famous Disk offline error when accessing disks. It used to work flawlessly. Could this be the usual diskdirve problem? I don't know wich type of diskdrive is used in this machine.

Bring it to Hans Oranje or Bas who commented four posts above for repairs.

Like I said, I don't know what I have to check? Output voltages? Visual inspection? Temperature? What are logical steps to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but I prefer to fix it myself, if possible. The reason for that is that I can't afford any money at the moment.

So I'm looking for free advice.

Dude, you can check its aura and astral-alignment for all I care, but generally when someone tells you to check a power supply you might want to make sure that voltage is indeed among the things you check...

Check the main board for any indication of what should be coming in. If that doesn't match what's coming out of the transformer that might be a clue. Otherwise try checking some points of the MSX you know should have a certain value. For instance the diskdrive connector, should have both 5v+ and 12v+ on it. This would also be a good thing to check. Well, that's where I'd start at least...

Thanks, that's what I need.

Did you figured out what's wrong? Another thing: I am fairly fluent in both English and Russian. If you'll send me all the technical manuals you have by registered airmail, I'll OCR and translate them all, and send them back to you, also by registered mail. Or if you can find some time to scan them on your side, I can use just the scans.

If you can't scan the whole thing, please at least scan the electronic scheme (at super-high quality (600dpi or so...). Please!!!

The manual I have covers the network part of the YIS805 and 503. So all the calls, CP/M, BASIC networkcommands, etcetera. So there is no electrical schema or other generic stuff but all there is to knwo about the network.

Where do you live?

I'm from Toronto, Canada. Find out how much is shipping. Or if you can, do the scans. I'm buying FineReader, it's one of the best OCR systems. Then I'll translate stuff to English. You can then translate it further on to Dutch or any other language

I am also interested very much in reading NetBios manual !

I had this manual in the past during my school years, but now I have Russian Yamaha MSX2 again and I want to understand networking software I am trying to disassemble...
Maybe this will lead to creating a driver that will connect Yamaha to a modem via it's own network interface ...

First attempts of reverse-engeneering already helped me to load MSX-DOS1 and a ramdisk into diskless MSX2 and this became feature in MicroWAVer... but that's another story and I still need more info to understand networking BIOS of Yamaha MSX2 Network interface.

In short, I am looking for these manuals as well.
Russian is OK, of course.
