I've finished the translation of Net BASIC part of Yamaha MSX2 classroom network manual. I fixed some obvious errors in it and added some important info from other sections of the manual - for better understanding.

Now I would like you to help me with proofreading and fixing my English - because I feel that some statements can be said in a more clear and elegant way.
I remember 3 or more of you volunteered to help a week or two ago - so the time has come.

My e-mail for corrections and fixes: borus@NOSPAMmail.ru

For those who have no plans to proofread the text - you can read it to learn about networking we had in many MSX2 classes spread all around the ex-USSR !

Hey, you did great job, and the thick russian in your english only makes the document more authentic. As long as people can understand it, it's perfect

10x, dhau.
I hope they really can understand my English.
After having some experience with Japanese people trying to explain me something in English (at least they think they speak English), I am not sure my translation could be understood.

I currently don't have the time to look into it specifically (I'm still working on some things that have been on my ToDo list for far to long), but at first sight it looks well translated and perfectly understandable!

I agree, I think it's fine. You've done a great job.

Thank you, snout and Jazzy.

If it looks OK, then HansO can add it to his collection near the PDF he scanned.

There is one more section in the mentioned network manual that appears in Russian only - NetBIOS for MSX-DOS. Is there any need to translate it ?

I don't think anybody is going to develop something for classroom network in MSX-DOS, but maybe it will be helpful for emulator developers if someone somewhere will decide to emulate it (dreams dreams dreams... will they become real ?).

I am dreaming about emulated teacher computer connected via MSX-Link to a real student MSX2 computer: this way I can see about all classroom network software working.

But from the practical side - most things you would like to do on real Yamaha MSX2 are games - and about all of them you can already send using the tool tnt23 wrote.

Does anyone at all has electronic schematics of YIS-805/128R2??? I tried to extend memory to 256K by populating 4 empty places for 4464 DRAM ICs (and 9 related capacitors), but it didn't do anything, so I guess something additional has to be done...

Try to contact NEV (nevATmrdoorsDOTru) - he has some experience with upgrading Yamaha hardware, mappers, etc.

Maybe completely out of the way, but I recall reading something somewhere about VRAM upgrades from 128K to 192K which doesn't show up on the startup screen (still says '128 kb'), although some test software discovers additional VRAM correctly.

Or is that the 'User' memory you're trying to expand?

Expanding RAM is better that expanding VRAM.
How many programs need more than 128K VRAM or can make use of it ?

With both kinds of memory tou can do a virtual disk,
but in order to execute any cartridge ROM you need more mapped memory - at least 256K. I think 1024K is enough to run any ROM, am I right ?

Yeah, the biggest ROMs were made by KOEI - 8Mbit. That's 1MB... for safety, you could expand to 2MB, so you can utilise a neat RAMDISK next to it

My A1ST has 256kB internal and 1024kB external, works like a charm

Sure thing! I was merely wondering wether dhau had got that VRAM upgrade issue.

My personal knowledge in the fields of RAM mapping is slightly above zero But doesn't the native paging mechanism operate with 16K pages, as opposed to 8K pages in Konami ROMs? Sorry if it sounds stupid, but I thought I'd better ask

MSX-2 ROM just prints whatever is hardcoded in bios. I use Metal Gear 2 floppy version to test memory size. MG2 does show 4096K if I insert my external mapper, but doesn't show 256K if I solder extra dram chips
