The Konami story was just pure nonsense: speculation and nothing more.

That info you pasted, tfh, is probably just not correct, except for the quote. It draws the wrong conclusion, I think. The quote in MSX Magazine doesn't mention the V9948 at all, it just says screen 9 is not available. Well, that's true, because it is implemented in teh BIOS of the Korean machines only.

again: screen 9 isn't a special screen mode. It's just a software name for a certain mode of the V9938 (as I said: screen 6 with interlacing).

Well, both quotes are from the TNI pages. None of the information is actually mine.
Here are the links to the complete articles:

If there's nothing more interessant in V9948, then Konami's interest is stupid .... As I don't think that Konami strateges are stupid, there's must be another explanation ... Just a guess : register24 was maybe conceived for controlling a (video-)CD drive ?

To quote Nishi in Tillburg :

" our plans for digital video and audio on MSX helped creating mpeg, although it never got implemented for MSX."

So, register 24 was maybe for that !

Something really interesting for Konami

Imagine Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake with this advanced technology on MSX !

According to Nishi, almost every technological achivement was more or less started by MSX...
And the Screen9/Konami story has also been circulating in the MSX comunity for ages, without any proof.

/me just sticks to the above

As screen 9 works perfectly in the emulators without knowing the specifications of V9948 and register 24, then register 24 must be useful for some very important new feature

I think that register 24 is removed from V9958 to keep secret this feature ! (on request of Konami of course)

Will you guys cut out with the Konami stuff? Konami has not had any influence on any part of the MSX design!

That's not part of the MSX design.

Poke: You can make a ninja bid for the tapes on eBay

Hmm.. I made an intended dialog thread and noone answers.. Then I make a monologue thread, and all hell breaks loose?

Anyway, there would be no use for a special VDP if they were just BIOS screens..

Sonic: I think it was made up by someone in the MCM. Or the MCM quoted a person who thought it up, as a rumour.
