Hi,

What's the easiest program to convert screen 8 files (from Videographics, I think, digitized pictures at least) to a PC usable format? It's for a Windows environment.

Hm. Windows executable. That doesn't do much good in a Linux environment

Not a Windows app, but my old DOS CNVS program can do that in a Windows dos box. And it also runs on Linux in the dos emu environment

It's not for myself, but for a mega-noob. So CNVS is a bit unuserfriendly and I'm not sure how current PCX is.

Can someone check if Wolf's thing works fine (for noobs!)? I'll pass him that URL then

Btw: thanks for your trouble, Wolf!

It has 3 buttons, .. it's simple

[load sc8]
[save bmp]
[x] to get rid of an image, which brings back the fuzzylogic'esque dots (how retro can things be? )

The extension is probably .PIC, btw. Not that it matters, but maybe it can be made even more noobfriendly then.

How do you calculate the BMP colour value?

Color r*36,g*36,b*72

so, *yes*, it's not exact .. but no-one can see the difference imho, and by using this, a gradient is really linear, rather than linear with a few jumps in the centre.. (not that anyone sees that )

And iirc pic and sc8 are the same, but I could probably add it in v1.1
