I promised I'd let you know when it went on sale... and now it is!

http://www.livepublishing.co.uk/retro/retro17.shtml

Its the Global Gaming article. It features coverage on the MSX scene, and also Holland in general.

I actually live in France, meaning I won't recieve my subscription for another two weeks. (it isn't sold in France, at least where I live, and so I need to subscribe just to read my own articles. Can you believe it?!)

If anyone gets a copy early, feel free to make scans and put it up here. I honestly don't mind.

My editor told he managed to include the convention galleries on the cover disc.
It should also feature Blade lords by Parallax, and other non-MSX info related to the Netherlands and the retro gaming scene over there.

A special thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.
I hope it makes for interesting reading.

regards
John

I know... Several months ago I sent a promotional copy of Bomb Jack for MSX2 to one of the editors, who wanted to make a review of it. The orinigal game developers (Kralizec) and I would both get the Retro Gamer issue in return. Guess what ...

Aha! I remember now. Yes, Ashley Day did the review for it.

I'm assuming you recieved your free copy they promised? If not, you should have definetly emailed to ask what was happening.

It's normally pandemonium at their offices due to their massive workload. So a reminder may have been in order.

As for other MSX software, Mr Day is the resident MSX owning freelancer, so if there was any other software you wanted covered, it would be worth contacting them/him again.

Also, I can confirm there were some gallery images included (Im not sure how many), and also Blade Lords and also the freely distributable MSX emulators as requested. BlueMSX and another... which I forget the name of....

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading the article. I'd comment more, but I've not read their final edited version myself.

Yes! That's the one!

I also submitted the user manuals and source code with it, as was requested.

I did, I did of course. Ashley Day replied me then, he said I had to contact Mr. Carroll for that. So I did. Eventually I even got a reply from Martyn Carroll (that was two months ago), he said I'd receive my copy in a week. While still waiting, I sent him an e-mail one month ago, to which hasn't answered yet.

Ah well, let it be... I don't think I'll be seeing the issue, I guess...

Maybe I should get myself a subscription on the mag. Does anyone know whether the mag is available in the Netherlands?

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't recieve your copy.

I'm fairly sure it is available to the Netherlands, since there are several Dutch readers on the RG forums.

Unfortunately, the future of Retro Gamer looks dark. Live Publishing went into administration lately and issue 19 is still due to arrive. However, the magazine (very expensive though - £6) did make some money, but the other Live Publishing publications didn't.
