there is only one fair left in the netherlands.

so is this the end ore if i say it in dutch"stilte voor de storm"...

I hope the last option

My group will be active as long as the msxen of use works.

The last option is a bit optimistic, I guess.

Just liek everything thins come and go, but they don't come back as intens as it once was. So its quite normal to see that some people quit their hobby and find something new to spend their time and money on.

I don't share your feelings. Look at the past months: loads of new iniatives. (see the last newsletter for a nice summary). Many new productions are still developed. MRC welcomes new members each and every day... Where others stop a new MSX fan will rise. I agree that only one fair a year is way too few. So hopefully some nice new fair initiatives will be taken. Though I must not forget to mention Wolf's dev meetings, which are a nice addition to the fair(s)

mhoa.. to me, Bussum, Oss, Tilbeurs were meetings as well, the last years.. it's mainly about socializing... the real fairs were those where you could buy something new on almost every booth.

Also don't forget that most of the meet 'n greet is now less required since we talk to eachother on internet almost every day.. so, while the number of fairs drops, it wouldn't mean that the number of active ppl drops as well.

Considering that on a real fair I usually walk 1 round to see what's there to see and spend the rest of the time talking, well, then do me a devcon instead, anytime.

Although it's a shame that NBNO have discontinued their MSX activities (the only group I know have quit their MSX activities recently, you mentioned there are more... ), I think it's very unrealistic to consider this to be 'the end of MSX'. People have been shouting "It's all going to end now!" ever since 1986 and were proven wrong time and time again.

Like Bart stated: just have a look at the MRC, the MSX community is much, much, much, much, much more active than it was 5 years ago. To me, there are more reasons to be optimistic than pessimistic...

I guess the number of fairs or meetings for MSX users are not a good measure for MSXers around the world... as snout said, MSX community is much bigger and active now than 5 years ago (I'm looking for MSX activities in internet and other media since a lot of years, and I can see every day are more and more people and stuff everywhere)

MSX groups and fairs are quite different: not all the people have time and opportunity to "do MSX" at this level. For example, I live in Madrid, and I never went to a MadriSX meeting - I CAN'T-

Believe me, MSX are not dead. People who can join MSX clubs, fairs, meetings and programming/demo groups are really lucky -carpe diem guys-. For me all those people are "heroes" of the revival movement, the "top of the pyramid" if you want.

Please continue with it... (press F5 one more time)
