Submitted as a newspost/MSX in the Media challenge entry by Mäsäxi earlier today:
Hello!
This thingy is published in the 2004, but I first time heard of it last month. So I don´t know if it is known by you already, but anyway, I guess you will tell me, if you are familiar with it.
It´s finnish book called "KONEEN LUMO" by Petri Saarikoski (author has translated that as "The lure of the machine" which is straigthforward translation indeed) and it is part of the University of Turku´s examinations.
Book tells about how computing has developed in Finland, from 1970s to 1990s and Spectravideo 318 and 328 and MSX is of course mentioned and told about at least on six pages.
I am currently reading it as I lent it from local library. |

Does it say that MSX rocks?
By the way, how would you say "MSX rocks" in Finnish?
I love the Finnish toast, but I cannot write it. It sounds like "keepis", but I'm sure that you spell it with many more letters

I found out that there is a typo in my text, I meant that the book tells about the history of home computers aka home micros in Finland from 1970s to 1990s, not just computing. Computing itself started much earlier.
MSX ROKKAA!!!!!!!!!
That was the answer to your question, Pitpan!
And nope, there is no mention that MSX rokkaa. But that is probably due author had Commodore 64 ( what a surprise... )
But it says that "MSX captures home micro markets during 1985" !
( Did you hear!?!? MSX gonna RULE THE WORLD this year! or at least Finland... ...oh... it is 2005 already..? sorry....)
Another Nope, six letters is just enough to say "KIPPIS!".
It´s easy, just say it! English speakers can try to say "Keppis!" instead, the thing english speakers must remember when speaking finnish, that please do not drop off other consonant, say them BOTH! So in this case, say kiPPis! |

Yes!
I got once very drunk with a Finnish guy in Bilbao. We were both KIPPISing and SALUDing (Spansh toast). And we were also with other Scandinavian guys from Norway and Denmark, plus Dutch people, some German students, etc. A panaeuropean pack of boozers!
I'm a bit off-topic, am not I?

I just thought this pretty long and hard... I would just newer say "MSX ROKKAA!!!". It is translated correctly, but it just sounds pretty stupid and lame.
I would propably pronounce something like: " ttu MäSäX o kone!!!" that I try to explain:
"ttu" is typical prefix to emphasize importance of sentence.
"MäsäX" is nick for MSX although it means in old slang something like "break". Example: "Pistä mäsäks" means "break it". Today I would more likely say "tuusan paskaks vaa" that is also used many times with "ttu" prefix.
"o" is how you would pronounce "on" that means "is"
"kone" that means simply "machine" but in this case more like "mean machine" that you would propably say when you see a extra cool motorcycle etc.
hmm... I think that's enough of practical Finnish lesson. :-)

Hmm... Don't know what I was trying to explain, but direct traslation would be "MSX is fucking great machine!!!" with some street respect. |

I still notice the MSX in the Media banner on MRC sometimes, but I don't see any entries any more. Not even a poll to vote vor the best news item of 2005. Or did I miss anything (Which is most probable...)
