Just thought about it. With the upcoming Metal Gear 2 -Solid Snake- rerelease together with that special Metal Gear Solid 3 package, Konami must have done some MSX coding again!! That's cool! I mean.....They probably have changed Solid Snake his face, right? Does anyone within Konami still understand Z80 coding? Did they still have all the sources? Or did they have to do some reverse engineering?

Well.. I think they do still have all the sources somewhere. Can't imagine they would just throw it away.
And I guess that @ Konami Japan there will probably still be some MSX-nerds available, so

It would actually surprise me if they would've just thrown away the sources just because they stopped development for that system... and I wanted to be there if they would've done it to catch the lot

It would not surprise me, if Konami does not have the sources anymore. Even (especially!) in large companies, storage space (both electronical and physical) is a costly thing.

But storage space for all those Konami MSX games should not be much... like for Solid Snake a few MB for all graphics, sources and music in MSX format...

Indeed. Storage space problems are more the result of employees their personal mp3/divx collection. I can't image a company's heritage ever being on the wipe list.

Well i dont think japanese companies trow away their sources and games of the past........
Can you imagine hideo kojima would trow away his sources of metalgear, solidsnake,sd snatcher,snatcher........ The games that where made with passion for making games..... a piece of digital art to be proud of........

it would be very interesting to see what tools Konami used to create all those masterpieces... apart from the sources themselves of course.

Speaking of which, does anybody know on what systems Konami developed their MSX games, especially the code part? Did they do some cross-assembling on for example some Unix machines or was all the work done on real MSX-es?

In the mid 80's I doubt a PC - what was the top of the range 16Mhz 386? Maybe some sort of mainframe, perhaps when some meets Kojima they could ask him?

There was an interview with Kojima in the latest MSX Magazine...So some Japanese MSX users must have (had) contacts with him. For me, it would be most interesting to see with which uprogram they used to make their MSX music.

I agree.

Actually I donīt know much about japanese companies, but in business world it is NOT unusual thing to throw sources to trashcan when every possible pence and cent have been drained out from their products and company knows, that when they can never do any more money with their now OLD FASHIONED product, what they do, of course, is to end that product line and clean rooms for new ideas and products.

Of course some companies in the world keep their sources, but not everyone, they are NOT YOU, they donīt still romantically cry that MSX is not dead, they are making MONEY, not making YOU happy MSXīer.

YOU as MSX lover, of course want to store every dirty piece of paper, even toilet paper used by dear old much loved KONAMI, but THEY DON`T NEED it anymore, when itīs completely used, itīs used and it can be thrown away/flush.

Since in business world MSX has been long dead now, it is not too strange thing if konami doesnīt have the sources anymore.

of course it is POSSIBLE that they still have EVERY disk and demo cartridge and EVERY pieces of little sketch papers in some warehouse.... .

no, they donīt, think about stt who has some konamiīs proto-beecards... is he really only one...?

if stt has bought those stuffs from someone, then it is not very hard guess, that someone had discovered, snatched, whatever, other konami stuff too, and maybe someone (someone other than old konami staff) has all sourcedisks and ripped sketch papers which konami proudly threw to trashcan when they were moving to newer machines. And then someone poor one who lived in the street found them and brang them to fleamarket and then someone bought them and so on and so on and nobody knows where whole lot is today and who owns them.

And what is better, maybe there are no sources left anymore, maybe trashmen emptied konamiīs trashes to their lorry and emptied their lorry to dumping area.

And so almost everybody stays in good faith that konami the god in itīs great wisdom of course have kept their holy sources so now every can still believe there IS konami msx heaven out there somewhere............

maybe we should open our eyes and see that konami heaven is here already, have been here, outside of japan last twenty years.
