But storage space for all those Konami MSX games should not be much... like for Solid Snake a few MB for all graphics, sources and music in MSX format...

Even a few MB was a lot in the '80s And the complete source and documentation to a project is a lot more than just the source code, graphics and music files: there's documentation, art, storybooks etc etc etc. I would not be surprised if the complete project documentation to e.g Metal Gear 2 comprised 1 GB (uncompressed).

And, I can image Konami keeping all that in store, for a couple of years. Until they run out of disk space and some manager decides that it's cheaper to wipe some old sh*t from the disks than to invest a couple of bucks and buy a new HDD.

Plus, I've actually seen companies -- even companies that use revision control systems like CVS -- being unable to call up the sources to a piece of software not even 2 years old!

Indeed!

If someone(s) is able to write a game, it doesn´t mean, that same person(s) is able to DESIGN that game! If one(s) like to make great looking game with great playability, they usually need someones who have great ideas and who can draw great looking sketch to paper!

Of course there are MSX´ers who can do lots of coding and nice grafix even if they can´t draw recognisable doggie on the paper, but (good) industry needs artists too!

As some xtra input...Kojima writes himself:

Tomorrow I will begin double-checking the reissued version of the MSX version of Metal Gear, including the sound. Not many people on staff know about the MSX version. I appreciate how clear Makyamon's memory remains about his experiences as an MSX gamer. Thanks to his careful work, the tone has become closer to the original sounds of the SCC sound source.

Once more I am checking the MSX version of Metal Gear that will be included in Subsistence. Every time I want to open a door I have to select the exact keycard that will open that door. For instance, when the player must run through all of the keycards in the gas room, he must enter the equipment submenu and change the equipped item from the gas mask to one of the keycards. While I'm testing the keycard on the door, Snake's life diminishes because of the poison gas. I got crushed by a tank while trying all the different cards for the door.

When the MSX version was ported to cell phones in Japan I was asked, "Should we update this part of the gameplay to the current standard wherein the player just holds the card and the door opens if it's at any level of access below the player's maximum level of security clearance?" The original idea was to experience the thrill of choosing the exact right card to escape while enemies close in on Snake. I insisted we keep the original idea.

Hahahah, neat. I can imagine him sitting at his computer, not remembering what keycard to use, going like: "Come on, stupid door! Open up! I *made* you!"

I really doubt no-one in Japan made maps of the game and have them published is a magazine or Kojima still having a list somewhere
