The new website allows us to add new functionality easier than the previous website. Of course we have some interesting plans waiting for you, but we'd like to know what YOU would like to see on the MSX Resource Center.

-You probably already planned this?-, but
it would be nice if all members could see which MSX friends are online.
Idea for the MRC-Bot: show on msx.org what the current topic is on #msx and #msxdev

The first idea: we're indeed working on a nice contacts module which probably will have a feature like this. About the MRC-bot: first priority is to get the bot up and running again Thanks for the ideas! |

We will probably never add this functionality. It would be quite strange if - for what reason - old news posts, forum posts or reactions disappeared from the site without the admins having any control about it. It could damage the contents of our website. |

you should not have admins to control, you should have PHP scripts to control. Why cant i be able to delete my own forum submission like i usually could?

As Super-Moderator of the MSX-XPress forums, I can say that the option "delete the messages" should must have two levels (like it's the case on MSX-Xpress)
- the user level : every user should have the possibility to edit and/or delete his messages (and ONLY his messages)
I notice that the "delete option" is rarely used by the users of the MSX-Xpress forums, but the "edit option" is very useful to make some corrections, precisions, or delete a part of a message
As I can edit my messages, I can really also delete the greatest part of the text. So why not a "delete option" ?
About the problem of some messages that become strange if other messages in the same topic are deleted : I think that the Admins and the Mods must do their job !
- the Mods / Admins level : they can edit and/or delete all messages of all users, especially if the messages are off topic or if they don't respect some rules.
So the first thing to do is a message with the rules that everyone must follow to post in this forum 8)

I say you would have to be able to delete your own posts. In your policy you say that all contents written by people remain THEIR COPYRIGHTED material, therefore I MUST be able to have control over it, for instance deleting my post or editting it.
It changes though when replies are posted to it. Once replied to a post, it should NOT be possible for the original poster to delete the contents of the staruing post, because he would delete the replies as well, which is an infringement of the copyright of the other posters. Only the Mods/Admins should have this option to delete a thread (or newspost) with replies, since the MRC foundation reserves the right to edit the contents.
So to go short:
- -Admins/Mods can delete/modify ALL contents
- -Posters can always edit their posts
- -Posters can ONLY DELETE their posts when NO REPLIES by others have been posted
- -If replies have been posted, the poster can still EDIT his post to remove the contents of his post with an EXPLANATION WHY (s)he deleted it. Mods/Admins can then choose to delete the thread or write a short summary of the original post (with consent of the orginal poster.
New Feature Suggestion:
Buttons to click on to insert a Quote, Email, URL, Code, List BBCodeTag, which is a usual feature in most Forumsoftware (even lousy phpBB )
[edit]
there is a BUG in the forum code... If a List Code is not closed, then you get errors when editting the post... At least this happened just now
And add an Editted by/on Tag

It would also be nice to change your name if necessary...
for instance I'd rather have my username set as FiXato nowadays
but it is understandable if this is not added |

Hmm are there more people who would like to be able to change their user names? I think changing user names can get quite confusing. Besides, some things (like news posts) will be stored under your old user name. Hmz...

If the database is organized correctly, than changing username should only affect 1 table
All useraccounts should have a unique UserID which can be used in the other tables like the newsposts
But like I said, I can understand if this feature is not implemented... it can get annoying if people chnage their username all the time that's why I do not have it on my forum (I can implement it though if it is needed because someone uses an unwanted (by me) username ) |

The database is a bit redundant on purpose. From time to time, we clean up our userbase. Which means that we clean the sleeping users (of which the email addresses are no longer functional). If - for instance - the newsposts were directly linked to the userbase, this would mean that all news posts submitted by these users were to be deleted, or remain with an invalid userID. We had trouble with this on the old site after deleting about 300 members. |

Hmm, that is true...
Another feature suggestion:
Edit Links (suggested this in a personal Email)
Email Notification for posts to which you have subscribed or replied...
Now I have to do a search to find all the posts I made to see if there were any responses...

All suggestions were added to my personal to investigate or even to do list. Thank you for thinking along! Give me some time to make them changes |
