Good article, the comparison, but why isn't no$msx included? It's fast and compatible (at least it has perfect SCC/PSG emulation).

No$msx wasn't included for two reasons. It has been more than 9 months since the latest update and I had trouble running no$msx on my windows XP system. If more people would like me to put No$msx to the test, I will. And while we're at it... some people have asked me to do a review on MESS as well. People who'd like to see MESS on the testing bench.. please let me know as well.

Apart from that, I'm always interested in new software tests. I have been asked to separate MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX turboR tests and give them seperate ratings. Of course this is a LOT of work, so I will onlye do this when there is

a) demand

b) enough interesting software tests?

What are interesting software tests? Well.. basically anything that doesn't run fine on every MSX emulator in the test . Suggestions are more than welcome.

I haven't tried it yet myself, but if it's anything like NO$GMB (and I assume it is) it is a godsent for programmers. The debugger Martin wrote is heaven. It beats even professional debuggers hands down!

So, NO$MSX is probably not so much targeted at end-users than it is to programmers.

I wish Martin would update it tho ^^;

But ofcourse he's busy making $$$ with NO$GBA...

It's a shame he stopped working on NO$GMB due to hackers/lamers. I paid for that one and it was money well spent. (Even though I somehow never got the latest update : and his email address is now secret )

No$msx is the only emulator that runs full speed on a P166MXX laptop (fullscreen) and therefor it is the fastest emuator around (i've tried them all). I didn't knew that it is out of development. No wonder the support on that site is so minimal...

I also had trouble running no$msx windows version on 2000/XP, but the dos version works (without sound). The windows version lacks a fullscreen option, but the DOS version runs very well on W9x!

I do have some problems with the emulator, ie. it refuses to boot autoexec.bat from disk images. Also, if you start it with the emulator instead of the debugger and you press certain keys ("F" or "G" it automatically goes to the debugger.

Maybe if more people would ask the developer to continue the work??

I can assure the MSX community that NO$MSX is still in development. I know this by e-mailing with Martin Korth, the author of this emulator.

I citate a part of his answer :

"yeah it's a good time since the last update, but it's not discontinued.

....

the more important news would be lots of new features imported from other no$emu's, among others symbolic debugging info, a basic decompreter for viewing the basic listing in a window with scrollbar, and better arj/zip support"

So, we must wait for version 1.5

Ok, I think it's a good plan to put No$MSX in the emu comparison when No$MSX 1.5 arrives.

And of course MESS should also be in the comparison! Ask 'atarulum'... He told me MESS is very good in some things!

Delvaux Benoit, how did you get his email address? Did you write him a snailmail letter? AFAIK his email address is very secret. (As in, I don't have it and I even helped him improve NO$GMB's sprite priority and DAA opcode!)

Start No$MSX with the debugger and look in the Help ...

Hehehe, that's what I get for not trying it out! ^^;

Funny, coz on his webpage he specifically says there is no email support for CPC/MSX either.

He probably bets lamers don't use CPC/MSX at all

Anyway, thanks
