a couple of days ago I started on a new project called Slingshot

The idea is to create a frontend that is made for gamers, it will probalby have a palette editor in it and it will utilize the cheat database I've been working on.

Control page

Rom Selector

These are still ideas which have to be worked out, they are both functional but it will take some time for a first release will be done.

This program is writen in VB.net (.net version 2.0) using Visual Basic Express (free download from the microsoft site)

It uses TCP/IP to communicate with openMSX

All the help on this project that I can get is welcome!

So, Windows only
There's an open source project for .NET, called Mono, which also ships a BASIC compiler. Using that you should be able to make Slingshot available on other platforms as well.

when mono gets updated it probably will run dot net v2.0 aswell... right now it's only there for developers. But that's ok since I will not officially be releasing the first month.

A week or so ago I started a new project for openMSX. I named it slingshot since catapult was already taken.

Q: What is slingshot?
A: Slingshot in an launcher/control program for openMSX just as Catapult is except Slingshot is made with gamers in mind.

Since pictures say more then words.... here are some pictures.

Here you see the main page of slingshot. Disks, Carts and extentions are included. Please note that you can also make disks on the fly as openMSX is running.

Next up is the video output control with scanlines, glow, blur and gamma. These sliders work real time with openMSX

Next to it is something completelly new. It can be best described as a real time palette changer. (like Bifi's nifty application to do the same) only this is realtime and can change screen 5 6 and 7 palattes. It also has a save and load function so you can save you palette at all time. (only works with MSX2 or higher)

An Example of the Palette changer

And at last(!) an graphical interface for the cheatfinder

Sorry I went a litle bit overboard there

For the application to run you need the dot net framework version 2.0.

Q: When will it be released?
A: When it is ready to have an initial release.

Slingshot Early Beta Preview Realease

I've released an initial Preview version, software comes as it.. it'll blow up your computer and fry your CPU (I did warn you) but on most computers it will work fine.

You need to download the dot net framework version 2.0 of the microsoft website if you don't have it already.

dot net 2.0 x86 version or dot net v2.0 64bits

I tried to run slingshot:

I download the first beta, then I downloaded the "dot net 2.0 x86 version"...

Well having to download 22mb to run a < 300k file was annoying, but ok, I was
willing to try it...

The I start the dot net install... on my old comp, almost 1/2 an hour to install it!
(I know it's not your fault, but still is a hassle to the end-user)

Then I try to run slingshot, and it crashed (not even the window showed up)
I got frustrated and uninstalled everything.

Sorry

Sadly the low quality of the video does not allow to read the menus...
Can I add a request for openmsx?
I would like to have something that helps the debugging during development.
Each time I rebuilt my rom, I need to open catapult and retype its name or catapult
otherwise catapult continues to used the previous version it probably holds in a buffer
This is annoying (add repetitive and not useful steps to the debugging) an error prone
as if I miss this step during debug, I do not know if I'm wrong or openmsx is running
the old version of the code
