I have my first MSX, a CX5M at my dads place and last time I used it (approx 8 years ago) it worked fine. Since then the video output has broken and when I connect it to a TV, the picture is black. The autoscan on the TV seems to find the MSX so I guess there is some sync signal sent out. I remember that C64 had a lot of problems with the video caused by cold soldering. Can this be the case on my CX5M or can the problem be something else. The rest of the machine seems to work fine.

Do you have any game cartridge? Can you hear the audio of the cartridge thru the television or an amplifier?
Any peripherals?
Have you tried RGB output?
Try to type color 15,1 and press enter
these are "stupid" things, but I don't know your electronics' skills |

Good tips. Actually I think I'll try the RGB output next. It doesn't really matter if the RF output doesn't work since its quite easy to just make a RGB or composite video cable from the monitor connector. Other things seems ok, like caps lock.
Does anyone know if its possible to buy a monitor connector to the CX5M. It seems to be a very unusual connector. Looks the same as the cassette output but I don't want to destroy that cable.
