Hi all,

The openMSX Team is desparately looking for a MS Windows developer. Herman is retreating as our last MS Windows developer in the very near future. We thank him of course for his incredible efforts! Without him, we wouldn't have had decent packaging or a Windows release for the last 1.5 year or so, neither would we have a Catapult application that works this well, if you consider all bugs in wxWindows!

Anyway, without a replacement, a release of openMSX for Windows after 0.6.0 will become uncertain.

So, if you're interested in developing software for the MS Windows platform, especially in connection with openMSX, please let us know!

Note that openMSX is very platform independent, but there will be always some platform specific details that we need to have some specialist for. For Catapult it's mostly the same. And finally, for packaging openMSX for Windows, we also need the Windows developer.

It will not have to cost you all your free time, because, as I said, most stuff is platform independent. But we definately need someone to fall back to in case of Windows-specific issues. This is the minimal thing to have, if we want to be able to keep the MS Windows platform supported.

In the long run, it would be nice to have a 'real' Windows oriented developer as well. You just need to be able to code in C++ and have a good idea about the Win32 specifics that projects can encounter. And if you're really interested, you could even develop Win32 specific stuff like a DirectX renderer or other goodies

But as I said: for the short term, a packager, tester and minor (platform specific) issues resolver would be rather necessary!

You know how to contact us!

you need a programmer (whot language), packager (msi) or tester?

We are packaging with NSIS at the moment. The packaging works, but we need someone who's using Windows to maintain the packaging, to actually run the packaging at a release and to adjust the packaging if necessary. If someone wants to help who can package with MSI, then it's also fine, as long as he/she can maintain the packaging.

To test whether everything works on Windows, we also need a tester. Herman did this, and BiFi is still doing so. Vampier did a lot of testing, but as you may have read, his time is also very limited nowadays. The more testers the better! It would be nice if the 'packager' could help with testing as well (if he/she likes).

We need a programmer (C/C++ mostly) to resolve (assist in resolving) some Windows platform specific problems if they arise. And to help testing them of course. But luckily we rarely have these kinds of problems.
