Ok, we received a lot of mails considering the MSX Association logo policy. Actually it's just a trademark. Basically, the deal is this: Normally, no one is allowed to use trademarked logo's at all, except the holder of the trademark. MSX Association has allowed other people to use the trademarked logo, with a few limitations which can be seen in this news post.

Because there were many reactions and some small new developments I think it's a good idea to continue the discussion on the forums instead of the frontpage. So everybody, drop in your 2 cents!

WHAT?!! 2 CENTS?!?! WE HAVE TO PAY 2 CENTS EVERY TIME WE USE THE MSX LOGO!? AAAARGHH!!!

Just kidding But this seems to be the general reaction ^^;

People should read better and think about what they've read in stead of jumping to conclusions halfway in a sentence.

In think that the problem is not the logo use policies themselves. They are indeed very relaxed.

IMHO, the problem is, that MSX Association is quite silent, at least from the outside of Japan point of view. We don't know almost nothing of what they are planning or developping, unless someone else in Japan tells us anything. And the first news we have from them since long time ago, is that they have published restricitive (OK, very little restrictive) rules for using the MSX logo, which we assumed for free use since ten years ago. That's why people has reacted negatively, I think.

Having rules for using the MSX logo seems logical to me, but I hope that in return, we will receive something else (like new official soft or hard). Let's bring an opportunity to MSX-A.

We don't know anything less than the average japanese MSX'er!

The MSX Association does not go around and print everything they do in japanese newspapers or japanese internet sites. Neither does any other company.

If something is made official we know about it, and again, MSX Association already makes much more of their plans public than most other companies.

Having said that, msx.org often has news before any japanese site does! The feeling of 'the japanese know more than we do' is simply not true.
