What especially struck me is how close the scores were - indicating that the composers/arrangers were well matched. One person though clearly stood above the rest - consistently. So though the quality of all songs is very close, the 1st prize is definitely well deserved.

Wind Warriors

Wind sounds slowly shifting to a somewhat expressionless tubularesque melody, supported by common harmonies. The sound is somewhat 'thin' and could use a bit more oomph in general.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony/Melody: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 35

Genius Art Come

Another (once again: somewhat expressionless) tubularesque melody. The misleading way the rhythm is introduced is interesting to say the least. Once more, the sound is somewhat 'thin' and could use a bit more oomph.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony/Melody: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 8

TOTAL: 36

Profile

Upbeat tune with phat sounds - nice intro. Interesting harmonic change around 1:20. Nicely layered full sound, with plenty of interesting effects (note the rhythmic chords around 3:00).

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 8
Harmony/Melody: 8
Variation: 7
Transitions: 8

TOTAL: 38

Dike the twin van Mike

Another upbeat tune. The fast and soaring arpeggios with square leads are quite reminiscent of the '80's.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 8
Harmony/Melody: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 36

Children of the Corn

Upbeat tune, sometimes interrupted by ballad-like intermezzos in half tempo.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 8
Harmony/Melody: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7
TOTAL: 36

Impact 205/BDD's Theme 5

And yes, another upbeat tune, this time with very tracker-like sounds. The main theme, though short, is quite catchy.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 8
Harmony: 8
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 37

Impaccable

The sound is heavily inspired by old sound chip compositions, using a limited number of sound channels to generate entire harmonies by playing very fast and repetitive sequences.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 35

BDD's Theme 3

Upbeat seems to be the keyword this year. The somewhat standard chord scheme is accompanied by a fast improvised melody.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 35

All there is to see

Dramatic ballad-like theme. It's a pity that the melody (played with a shakuhachi) is barely audible in the beginning, because the vivid choirs are in the same sound spectrum.

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 35

Lowlife

Interesting - we seem to have a real rock song here. The sounds could use a bit more oomph though - rock is played loud!

Composition/Arrangement: 7
Sound: 7
Harmony: 7
Variation: 7
Transitions: 7

TOTAL: 35

Squeek demo 2

If you never heard chickens play rock, you want to hear this song. It has power and the bombastic transitions definitely spice up the music. Nice ending.

Composition/Arrangement: 8
Sound: 8
Harmony: 8
Variation: 8
Transitions: 8

TOTAL: 40

Source of Power

Bombastic intro, heavily influenced by classic/symphonic music. Interesting drum patterns. Wolf is a master at transitions and knows exactly when to change the song, and how to change it. Also it seems that his classical education (?) has paid quite off.

Composition/Arrangement: 8
Sound: 8
Harmony: 8
Variation: 8
Transitions: 8

TOTAL: 40
