I just tried to edit my previous post and i cant!

If i could i would delete all the "complaining stuff" about the large thread and etc.Well i believe i will order a Sunrise CF cartridge and use a memory card for msx.In order to run symbos for it
I have not installed symbos yet into floppies,i have only used a hard disk image file i found, that was used on emulators. But right now i want to use my NMS 8280 mainly for symbos.

Prodatron any chance that some msx-dos programs could run under symbos?(Pma extractor, lha extractor).
I am not a programmer and i do not know if this is possible.Could symbos have native built in support for some dos commands that we all frequently use?.How about those dos programs that are not of msx-dos disks but are loaded like com files (like the examples i provided, archive extractors etc).

Of course i understand that this would only be possible with more memory, right now i wait for a 4mbyte memory mapper

Best regards

Editing time is limited to keep posts that make sense in combination with replies. If one edits his posts on which others have replied, then those replies suddenly don't make sense anymore.

Hey! People was amazed with Symbos which I showed in depth at last 31 BCN RU (Users Meeting) in our ONE BEER MSX (yes!) stand. Specially with the last chapter of the Simpsons in SymPlay ^-^ (so... last SymStudio version works well on video ) being readed from a FAT32 1GB CF Card in my VG 8245, how it works generally and all the good things you can do easily with SymbOS. Also I have seen that SymCommander is by far the best file manager for MSX.

What would be the highest frame-rate for a Turbo-R GT machine reading from CF-IDE?

Sorry, wasn't online during the last 2 days.
@Nikodr: Yes, regarding splitting the thread I must say I agree with Wolf, I couldn't describe it better
@Trebmint: I think, most of the CPC sceners are terrible inactive. I would also say, that more than 90% are not interested in new software but dream about the 80ies games etc... Seems, that this is completely different in the MSX scene. Yes, and this thread is responsible for 90% of my motivation

I was thinking about a CP/M emulator for SymbOS. That would work, but I think the same for MSX-DOS will be very hard or impossible, as MSX-DOS supports memory mapping, and that can hardly be "emulated" in the SymbOS environment.
It could be more easy to port such tools to the SymShell, if the sources are available...

Btw, the current maximum is 576KB. I am planning to extend it to 1MB, but this will always be the limit.

@Spl: Cool! Btw, did you solve all problems with your INI now??
@Pitpan: This depends on the size of the frame (x,y size). Unfortunately the video output on the TurboR is not as fast as it could be, as the VDP slows down the CPU a lot. On a GFX9000 it would be much better I guess...

I visited the excellent site of prodatron for symbos.I wanted to download symstudio to create my own, videos etc however when i tried to find it the site gave me a "Page under construction".So i think that symstudio is not yet released for users to download?

Second question is :I bought a 4mbyte memory mapper,it says that if i have dos 2.0 i should use it so my external memory mapper is preselected.Truth is i don't have dos2 roms, and until i buy a sunrise expansion with cf interface i will not have dos2,so when i receive my external 4mbyte memory mapper, how can i make symbos understand it in dos 1?

Maybe I'm wrong (I tested SymbOS on floppy long ago); but I used a NMS8245 (a plain MSX2) with no more than the 4Mb expansion and SymbOS work flawlessly with that. A full 576Kb available for the OS!. So, no need for DOS 2 roms anywhere.

Well, that would be cool, but I was never able to test it by myself. I just heard, that DOS1 would not activate external memory mappers (=switch to this ram). Now SymbOS always uses the current selected memory, and as this should be the internal one in DOS1 (should it?), I thought, that an external mapper wouldn't be visible. Because of this I was planning to extend the boot loader with a "biggest memory mapper detector".

So if i have dos 1 does this mean that i can use symbos and symbos will allocate the largest memory mapper? If not is there another way?It would be so good if you could integrate that feature of "biggest memory mapper detector".When i get my 4mbyte external mapper i will test and tell you

Thanks
