There we are! Round 4 in our quest for the most essential MSX event. So, what's there to vote about? We're on a quest to find out which event the visitors of MRC think is the most essential MSX event that took place between 1985 and 2005. From the initial 78 nominees, there 26 have moved on to this round.

Right here you can find a list of all nominees that are still in the competition with the reasons why they were nominated. To make it even easier for you, the nominees are listed in the order of the votesheet below. Please read it first, carefully, and don't hesitate too look back at this list later on. Got it? Great!

Below is a list of 13 pairs. Your job is to divide three points between each pair. So with the pair

option A | option B

the following scores are valid:

3 - 0 ;option A | option B
2 - 1 ;option A | option B
1 - 2 ;option A | option B
0 - 3 ;option A | option B

It is NOT permitted to give halve points [yup, only positive integer are allowed!], the total points divided each pair HAS to be 3 points. You will have to make this decision each pair, until you completed the entire list. Mixing pairs with others is not allowed. Only completely valid submissions will be counted.

So all you have to do to vote is join the MRC, log in and fill in the votesheet below. This second round closes at October 4th, 23:59 CET. Happy voting!

Its sad to see that people don't think emus are important. I don't see how people can think a piece of hardware that doesn't have anything to do with MSX except that it fits in the cartridge slot can be even remotely as important as an emulator that has increased MSX interest and helped developers to do fantastic MSX applications. But I also was disappointed when Bush won the presidential elections....

That said, I like democracy, so here is my vote:

3-0 Release of MSX2 - Sunrise Swiss developing the GFX9000
2-1 Sunrise - hardware - FAC Soundtracker
3-0 MSX disk drive - Metal Gear Solid series
2-1 Konami - Wammes Witkop
3-0 Compile - The release of Nemesis 1

1-2 The Moonsound - V9938
2-1 V9958 - The release of Aleste 2
0-3 The release of SD-Snatcher - The release of Metal Gear 1

dvik: look at it from this pov: classic msx events defined the 'MSX', emus confirm 'MSX' these days .. ^_^
And thus, the classic events are prolly seen as more important..

I'll surprise nobody if I say that I completely agree with dvik about the emulators.

And as the eviction of blueMSX is the result of too many 0-3 votes, although until now I've used most 1-2 or 2-1 to nuance my vote, I've decided to use now this bad methode ... Of course, it's only a game

3-0 Release of MSX2 - Sunrise Swiss developing the GFX9000
3-0 Sunrise - hardware - FAC Soundtracker
3-0 MSX disk drive - Metal Gear Solid series
3-0 Konami - Wammes Witkop
3-0 Compile - The release of Nemesis 1

wolf_: I agree, except that I think GFX9000 is sortof in the same category as emus. Its a (relatively) new thing that doesn't have anything at all todo with real MSXing. Besides, the poll is about the important events between 85-05, not between 85-90.

I suppose that part of the problem is that for emus to be of any use at all, you first need the hardware to have been invented, and then the software you would've used on that hardware. The emulator simply is last on the foodchain. While that can be a good thing at times, it does mean there's nothing to eat if the amoeba die. Just consider the MSX1 the amoeba, the MSX2 the earthworm and blueMSX king of the jungle! There's pride in that too!

Your comparison definately makes sense when comparing an emulator with real MSX stuff. But GFX9000 is nothing but a poisonous frog. Noone can eat that I guess some people have been licking it too much and gotten too high though
