Hey everyone,
I found this great video on youTube about MSX.
It is from a 1986 British tv show and it features Bill Gates, Kazuhiko Nishi and mr Sinclair.
Look at what the presenter does btw when he demonstrates the compatibility between different MSX models;
He changes cartridges between two different MSX models while they are switched on (!!). The MSX's don't seem to mind, they just keep working
Here's the link:

Enjoy! |

Oeh, check that young dude who's called Bill Gates Oeh, and Kazuhiko Nishi is there too!
Ramon: it has been reported that several MSX machines have hardware reset switches built into the cartridge slot(s), which cause the MSX to reset when it's switched on and a cartridge is inserted. Don't know whether it concerns 'the Hitachi' and the other machine though. |

On the video Bill Gates accurately predicts the one chip MSX back in 1986!

The song played on Yamaha keyboard in this video is "Take me to the moon", known widely in the world as Frank Sinatra's song. Anime lovers know this song from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" series.

True.. My first MSX (Toshiba HX-10) had a resetswitch in the cartridge port. Nevertheless the guy I sold it to after I bought my first MSX2, blew it up in a couple of days (With my Antartic Advanture cart, which survived ) |

And it features the big question: why doesn't it have a cassette port? [although aimed at a different computer]
btw... the idea behind the MSX2 already was to implement as many features as possible on a single chip, nishi talked about this in his Tilburg 2001 lecture. |

Clive knows that the reporter in front of him has no clue, and neither won't most of the viewers. So he can spit out bullcrap like this and no one would notice...
What I found most interesting, was the fact that all the people interviewed and asked, admitted that the newer models of their computers (QL vs Spectrum, C16/C4+ vs C64) were not compatible with the old models and that that was not an issue at all! It definitely looks like they're putting real effort in minimising the possible impact MSX could have on the market... |

Allmighty Bill said PC is a high-end and MSX is a low-end computer, compartible between them is some way
(well, as we all know MSX floppies can be read and written on a PC).
If I understand it right, when PC became affordable, that effectively was the evolutionary end of MSX era.
The high-end brother eat up his small bro.
Too bad, massive integration of MSX in TV sets even didn't start.
Imagine MSX built-in in almost every TV, just as, for example, teletext...
