Very cool indeed! Bill and Nishi… Oh… my… GOD! Ha, ha! The part with Clive (going for a ‘dive’) already circulated for some time. How very wrong he turned out to be, eh? Still, not lacking in the sales & charisma department. I do remember that the Commodore 64 was the leading system in those days. Never had one, I waited for the GOOD stuff!

In Sweden C64 was by far the leading system. Sinclair was on a clear 2nd, maybe 20% of the market and then MSX on third with maybe 5%. But C64 and later Amiga was definately the leaders. |

I'd like to see the numbers... I can guess in UK Sinclair was the best selling computer ever, far from Commodore or other brands (maybe the BBC Micro was close to Sinclair, but just at the beggining). In Spain C64 wasn't as common as ZX Spectrum, MSX or Amstrad too, nd I know C64 it wasn't good sell in France nor Italy.
Maybe I will look for the numbers...

AFAIK over here in the netherlands it was mostly C64 closely folowed by MSX and later Amiga's. Back in the days you had either a C64 or an MSX.
I personaly never saw any ZX or armstrad. There was the occasional Atari computer.
Am I right?

It would indeed be very interesting to see the numbers country by country. Any idea where to get them? |

IIRC, MSX1 sold about 200,000 and MSX2 about 300,000 or something, in the Netherlands. What I do know for sure: loads and more MSX2 than MSX1. Got the info from Wammes Witkop some time, but maybe someone remembers it better.

perhaps someone should bug sony and philips, and ask for sales figures |

I doubt more than 50 MSX2 were sold in Sweden. I remember I saw a Yamaha MSX2 in one of the biggest music stores but I don't think anyone bought it. MSX pretty much died when Amiga and Atari ST was introduced |

In Spain it was very popular, I believe that here the most sold 8 bit system was the ZX Spectrum followed by MSX (despite its situation after 1988 when rumours about Microsoft and big consumer electronics companies leaving the system started to appear). Amstrad CPCs were popular too. The last position was for C64.
MSX2 was also popular (last Konami game for MSX2 sold in Spain: RC 762 Contra) but more MSX1 computers than MSX2 here.

The words 'Spain' and 'Konami' in one line always remind me of Martos .. |

Martos began to be active when the system was almost dead commercially (first years of the nineties). At that time there weren't companies importing MSX soft, only 1 shop in Spain selling TurboRs and the latest MSX hw and sw at high prices. The last big SW importer was Discovery Informatic. |

The same for Germany... Amstrad CPC was 3rd I think, unfortunately the MSX was very rare here. |
