So Bazix I guess. Who else would do it? Its a dutch magazine and Bazix is the only entity that would bother. Sad but understandable.

As far as I know, the original companies have these copyrights. Bazix is merely a representive of MSXA eh. MSXA represents those companies, Bazix represents MSXA outside JP. It's not just about games currently in Woomb, but also about games TO BE in Woomb in the future. Whether you like it or not, MSX is not as dead as C64 (heard the latest news? Commodore is now a company to assemble game-oriented PC's), a name which is currently far from related to the original system. So, due to MSX's undeadness, companies and their games aren't dead either.

And this all is just logical thinking.

here's what's written on bazix.nl

Quote:

As the official representative of the Japanese company MSX Association, Bazix takes care of all requests related to the trademarks and copyrights of the legendary MSX computer system for the non-Japanese market.

See: Bazix = MSXA. A few looser-f**kheads want to make you believe MRC = Bazix, but well, that discussion is an old one already, and as impotent as it can be.

Also from bazix.nl

Quote:

Bazix licenses software from its original publishers for distribution on WOOMB.

Difficult to understand isn't it?

If an art gallery has my exclusive license to showcase my oilpaintings in their gallery, and someone standing on the town square is projecting images of my same paintings on a bigscreen, for free, wouldn't you think it makes sense that this art gallery will protest?

And all this is NOT inside info, it's just reading their website.

It would be better to read up things first before you start screaming and yelling around.

Still... it is an emulator, which uses the MSX Systems ROMs, which MSX Ass. has the copyright. So they had all the rights needed to ask the link to be taken down, like it or not.

@Wolf,

If that is realy the case, Bazix should really get some balls and really take action. And then not towards an article like this, but you know where I mean, but Bazix doesn't have the balls for that, because they know they can close their "business" if they do that. If Bazis is really THAT serious, they shouldn't be so selective.

hmm.. I don't think it's really needed that they take action. Most people who like retro games, or retro game services, are well aware of the less legit alternatives. There's certain people who will simply never buy because they can get it for free (and even if they lose one source, they'll often find another), and there are people who will buy something because they think it deserves their money. That applies to all software, not just MSX.

Well, the thing is that Bazix seems to be quite sellective when it comes down to writing emails to websites/magazines/whatever when it comes down to linking to "warez". Fact is, when it comes down to it, even MSX.ORG links to warez on it frontpage once in a while:

http://www.msx.org/blueMSX-2.6.newspost3889.html

Fact is that BlueMSX contains the MSX System ROMS, this means that MSX.ORG is placing links to sites containing warez on it's frontpage. Since MSX.ORG and Bazix are 2 completely separate organisations, I do expect that BAZIX will undertake action towards MSX.ORG in this matter. I doubt MSXA will accept the faxt that such an important MSX Website links towards the copyrighted MSX-ROMS.

I guess that's why it might be better if they just didn't take action.

However, I get the idea Bazix really doesn't like MSX Mbox in particular. It might be because this emulator seems seems to have quite the following (also outside the MSX community perhaps), and has readily included games, so that might be the primary reason. All the other methods involve more hassle.

Simply put, it breaks most copyrights at once and its ease of use provide an easy portal to piracy. If it then gets attention in Dutch media too... tell you what, if I ran Bazix, I might be doing the same. It's all a matter of in which position you are.

More clearly: What's a lot like Woomb, but freely downloadable with 1300 games pre-installed?

(p.s. I'd like to stress that I think a lot higher of Woomb than that sentence might indicate)

AFAIK, excluding openMSX all MSX emulators include the BIOS ROMs. tfh: I hope you're not hinting that Bazix should take action against all of those, that would cause a riot

@Jonamaan,
I think Bazix should make very clear what it's position is, and handle accordingly. But you can't be as sellective as they have been up till now. I would prefer that they stop they actions as they are doing now but if they don't: fine by me, but then don't be selective and take action against all widely known "offenders", which includes MSX.ORG as well.
