hiya,

first of all, since this is my first post here, i'll introduce myself a bit:

i'm havoc (aka peter), have been involved with computers since the early 80's, touched my first MSX in 1987, got an atari in 1989 (booh! ), and since 1990 i've been doing graphics for various atari demos. you can see some of my (non-commercial) work here:

http://lineout.atari.org/gallery.php

the reason i'm here today is that i'm currently in the process of cleaning up and digging for more entries for the MSX demo archive on pouet.net. pouet.net (if you don't know it already) is a general demoscene archive that aims to collect all demos ever made fro any machine- and ofcourse that should include MSX demos too.

some stuff is already there, as you can see:

http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?platf%5B%5D=MSX&order=&x=17&y=10&page=1&order=

i've been digging around this and other sites and forums for more suitable prods to add, and will keep doing that. ofcourse any advice shortening my quest would be greatly appreciated!

cheers,

havoc.

Find ANMA demos, they've nifty code/effects! The Anmamusements disk is a good summary.

thanks for the hints and tips- i've got a couple dozen demos on my hdd now, ready for screengrabbing & uploading- finally there will be more than one single page of msx demos on pouet! :-)))

but please don't hold back now- the aim is to create a truly complete archive, so i'm also interested in (collections of) demos of perhaps somewhat lesser quality. also, if you see any errors on the site (wrong releasedates, prodtypes, category names, etc etc), please be aware that i can change such details using my magic "glöperator" powers, and thus "al sal reg kom" ! ;-)

the new suggestions will be added over the next few days/weeks, as i find time to make screenshots in between boring conversations with customers. it'd be really cool if more msx-scene-knowledgeable individuals than myself could "supervise" my progress and post any errors they find here, on the pouet thread for error reports (bbs topic 1024, linked at the bottom of each entry), via e-mail to my address, or by other suitable means. ofcourse fixes will be applied ASAP.

i've already added the youtube links to existing prods (if there are any more, please let me know). categorization of MRC compo entries is a bit tougher- to add a ranking, a compo name should be entered as well, and i'm not quite sure what category would be most applicable. if need be, a new category name can be created ofcourse. please advise

another thing- the quality of the screenshots in the mrc database is excellent- would it be allright for me to simply grab these screenshots and re-use them on pouet?

and finally, just having discovered more relatively recent prods than i had ever imagined- what are the chances to get involved in the development side of msx demos for a humble pixel artist like me (see link in the first post for examples) ?

before i forget- ofcourse you guys are more than welcome to create an account at pouet, and leave your comments, uploads, and whatnot. it's always cool to have an insider's view on productions, rather than just our own (uneducated) guesses

Yes, havoc, please contribute, there's a staggering SHORTAGE of decent and active gfx artists in our scene.. not just for demos but mainly for games. MSX demos usually don't have the odd image interruption like PC demos. I think people around here can draw gametiles quite well, but what's really needed are people who can do cutscenes for intros/endtros and the odd anime faces/persons. (in a consistent style of course, so that on various cutscenes you actually have the impression of watching the same person )

btw..

You might also know me as crystal score, from TBL ..

in the middle of this rather massive wave of msx nostalgia i'm experiencing atm, there's nothing i'd like to do more than support a whole shipload of msx demo and gameprojects. but i also would like to keep my record as clean as possible in the sense that i can actually deliver suitable graphics for the projects i'm getting involved with. since my time is limited due to the usual boring and predictable real life-related issues, i've developed a mantra of doing a maximum of 2 software development projects at the same time: one bigger bigger and longer lasting project in the background, and one smaller project that can be finished in a predictable timeframe of no more than a few weeks. at the moment, the "bigger" project is our next demo for atari falcon. i don't have a smaller project at the moment, so that's where i could perhaps fulfill my msx ambitions. to be honest, for starters i guess i'd prefer to work on a demo rather than a game- probably since the latter reminds me too much of work

poke-1,170: i gathered you're the one behind the enschede fm broadcasts? nice work! & groeten uit deppenbroek

wolf_: coincidences, coincidences earlier tonight, i met sjaak and ile in arnhem

aurora: thanks to the link manuel posted, i've noticed you msx guys are apparently well versed in grabbing atari graphicians (btw- nice to see exocet on msx )

coming to think of it... seeing that we're one big unexpected family anyway i might as well invite y'all to our party:

http://outline.scene.nl/2007/

we don't have msx as a selectable option in the registration form (yet), but ofcourse msx sceners are more than welcome to join the entire party, or drop by for a beer (or two or three or XX)
