Im very new to msx (having heard about the system through retrogames magazine many years ago...)-can someone explain to me the differance between msx and msx2? am i correct in thinking, that like *3do* msx systems all play the same games/software, but the only differance is the brand? eg, sony,toshiba...

but what about msx 2? What is this? an updated system?, r there games only available for msx2 that are not availble for msx 1?

Sorry for my naivety!!!!!

Yes! There are msx2 games that does not work on msx1.
The HW differences between the two standards are mainly in the VDP (now with 64 or 128K of VRAM, more colors and blitter capabilities)
and in the minimum amount or main RAM (64K but you can assume safely the 90% of the msx 2 have 128K or more)

MSX2 is the second generation of the system and it is backwards compatible with MSX (like PlayStation2 and PlayStation).

(And note that almost no Japanese MSX2 has more than 64kB RAM.)

thankyou manuel, im very intrested in the music making possibilities aswell-i realise my post about sound effects may not generate much interest because maybe many people can do it themselves!!! Well i think i have some original stuff goiing on, my friend is heavily into making exp films and i have made a lot of sound for his films so...

thanks, and you're welcome.

About sound effects: this depends very much on the sound chips that are used. For PSG, the "SEE" (Sound Effects Editor) is quite good. I guess it's in the download database of this site.
