Well, not much concrete. Tho I have an idea about the GUI, and my tile object is basically done (including methods for all kinda draw/mirror/rotate stuff, and technically features sprites, hiding of layers, those dvik/joyrex mixed colors). The GUI issue was an issue because the app's to be way bigger than the app window, and I didn't want tabs and floating windows. I'll now use those foldable panels you also see in 3dsMax -to name just an app-, which means you can basically open what you need and leave closed what you don't need.
While the app won't be truly big in terms of code (big as in 'bloated'), it will take some lines, and the biggest problem of the whole thing is more related to designpatterns , architecture 'n stuff.
And as always: other things come in between.., I tell ya: projects kill projects |

Anyway: back to the OP: Polka is related to drawing tiles, and thinking in tiles. That may suit you or not. Others prefer to draw freehand in -say- Photoshop, and then convert to screen2 format using their own tool, or some tool like BMP2MSX. Polka2 will stay a tile-tool, and won't become a freehand tool, I do intend however to include importing of -any- images tho.

Designer plus is a freehand tool. That's a bit of the major problem with MSX1, due its 2-colors-on-a-row-of-8 limit freehand drawing could lead to unexpected errors. The best results are get from working with microscope'ish functionality. One uses such editing in Photoshop or DeluxePaint, others -like me- prefer to work directly on the tile. Some ppl, like for ex. viejo_archivero of Karoshi, use both methods (photoshop and polka).
You could perfectly draw a line or draw a freehand line in an msx1 tool, the problem comes when colors sit too close together, horizontally. Exactly why do you seek a designerplus'ish tool for MSX1?

I know, all msx1+2 gfx modes are clear in my mind.
The reason was only to know if anyone, (meaning the active life time of msx, back in the '80) had developed some gfx tool for msx 1. I remember a sony cartridge....
It's only to know if anyone had tryed... not for today needings. |

I remember that someone told me, that Graphos III was very popular graphic program in Brazil.
In 80's every computer magazine that published BASIC sources at some point published also some sort of graphic editor. Some of them were bad and some of them were worse.
Freehand drawing tools for MSX1 do not usually work very well... MSX1 graphic modes are not very well suitable for drawing and MSX1 does not support mouse by default. How ever at least SVI had a graphic tablet for MSX1 and they delivered also quite a working drawing program with it. The paddle was anyway very bad.

Back in the old days I remember myself painting with Aacko Draw & Paint. Pretty dull even for yesterday standards; but very easy to use. At least I remember two full "artistic" screens painted with this software. |

What about the brazillian AQUARELA or GRAPHOS III? I think they are the best so far for MSX1.
