I still cannot understand WHY people hasn't gathered toghether and rolled their own. The schematic is avaiable, the VHDL code is avaiable, the GPL license says you CAN make a derivative product/code...so...what make you wait for bazix et al? Do your own board and make it open source!

See my above mentioned appeal on bazix. Bazix is the representative of MSX -A
They can grant you legaL use of bios-roms etc. But the simple fact that importing costs are that high you wouldn't take a change to do it.
The solution is to do it in license- such as we did it with the gamereader which is cheaper than in Japan -.
No high costs for import, direct a good european version in the year MSX is 25
And the support ....
Think about it and who's with me

If Sunrise decide making a OCM, for sure, I'll buy one.

I've been wanting to buy the OCM since the day Bazix announced it, so I'll buy it from whoever is the one who to produce it...

Idd, it doesn't matter much to me if it's produced by MSXA or under license of MSXA. I hope Bazix could actually arrange for the OCM to be produced 'locally', sounds like a great option and a way around the RoHS troubles...

You still have to be RoHS compliant...

Is it possible to import the msx one chip from japan?I thought there was some problems, due to european's union policies regarding recycling and some material that was used to construct it?
Is it true?

@manuel, no problem that's simply a question of buying the good spareparts
@nikodr, sure but importing is expensive -better more expensive for bazix - with many copies !

But all these remarks are off topic. The clear meaning of this to get Bazix that far that we say talk about it, consider it etc.

If you don't need MSX slots, you can make a pretty exact clone of OCM from a 150$-200$ Altera devboard, but, of course, the casing will be not that cool, and if you will want to update it, you also should be in sync with the clone VHDL developer or study coding it yourself.

Real geeks can also build and attach MSX slots to the devboard as well

I would say that without the slots, the OCM would be quite useless. If I would by one, it would be to connect my original hardware to it - like the Music Module. At the moment, I just use BlueMSX to run any software. And that does the job.

Again, both off topic, the question is do we want an european version rohs compliant and available with slots
Not again questioning the content(s)

/me too
(I guess this would make a nice poll on the front page

How would you like to get your OCM:

  • I'll get one straight from Japan
  • I'll wait for the Bazix version
  • Sunrise! Sunrise! Sunrise!
  • I'll make one myself
  • OCM? What's that?!

@sunrise: i thought that it was quite obvious by now that EVERYONE is waiting for that for about a year already... asking the obvious makes people think that it can't be that simple and they go awnser the question they expected instead?

It is not that obvious for certain and there is time to act not to wait , since bazix have never taken this option into consideration
Believe me it is that simple IF PEOPLE WANT , BUT AS USUAL WE AS COMMUNITY DONOT WANT TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE.

@AURORA , importing from Japan is possible if you do where and do it as an indvidual, but if there is something broken , learned already that edwin has severe difficulties to regain his original status of the OCM.
Waiting for the Bazix version is the same as waiting for the new japanese serie, if they consider it , no signs of that
Making yourself would be too expensive and where do you get the roms and or software.
And besides it will be Sunrise in cooperation with Bazix.
