I just noticed that at least on KAON KTSC-N550H2 digital TV receiver (satellite & terrestial) has built in MSX emulator.

Does anyone have more details? Is it MSX1 only? What other KAON models have MSX emulators?

And also interesting: what implementation is it based on, or is it a new implementation?

Hmmmm... seems BAZIX should contact the people behind This site...

Seeing whats on that site, you can presume it's at least an MSX2 emulator, since it's supposed to run Space Manbow...

BAZIX doesn't own the MSX brand nor the copyrights

Nope, but Bazix is the official European representative for MSX Association, which does hold the MSX brand. And it seems MSXA has interest in protecting copyrights on old MSX software in order to get cooperation from the original companies for their revivial activities. That's why this KAON business might be interesting for Bazix to check.

Well, instead of harassing a finnish distributor, why not contact KAONMedia themselves? http://www.kaonmedia.net/
Seeing that KAONMedia is a Korean enterprise, i wish you all good luck with the 'protecting copyrights' endeavour...
No mention of MSX games in the N550H2 manual, except for some run-of-the-mill stock games like Tetris,Hexa, Puzzle,Slider,Mine, Snake etc...
But the KAON-games.rar does feature Space Manbow,Super Laydock and Hydlide 3 roms...

hehe, i knew that, In Denmark, there is a Triax which can do the same, it works with USAS too, so its MSX2 at least, i am not sure, but i think it emulates scc too. I threw a few games on youtube, you can search them on MSX TRIAX.

I also tried to look in those firmware files, but there is no indication of what kind of emulator is used. It may be compressed in some form, as there are hardly any strings in it at all.

I think most modern cpu's in TV/STBs can emulate 8 bit home computers. Certainly as these devices more and more are based on common operating systems it becomes easier and easier to integrate emulators into these kind of devices.

In a few years your kids can play these old skool games in the rear seat of your car on the car entertainment system while you shout at errors of the automatic lane detection unit ;-)

I think the msx emulator is not a firmware thing. It might be stored in the hardware chips itself.
The emulations on the Triax STR 333 is very bad, especially the speed and the sound. Not running 100% speed maybe 75%
And the sound is very awfull

You know, I posted that site, because at the end of the page they have a link to several "KAON games"...

If you download the game package, you will get a lot of ROM files. Some are ROMs and other are MEGA ROMs, but all are still playable under emus...

Some of them seem to be not modified anyway, but others do not show original LOGO, but the word "SCREEN". Looks really Korean way, so do not expect any Copyright notes.
