Depends on the level. There are levels that have even more than 2 layers. E.g. a fixed background, a moving back layer and then the front layer.

Does the "remove disk when power drops to 0 trick" work with emulators?

I actually think only_69 needs to take a break after he's done with Bastard.. So he might pick a bloody simple game again.. something with 16 screens, a stupid end-demo text, and that's it.. or so Maybe even a Speccy conversion!

Well, if you're so curious, it's still easy enough to try

More than 2 layers?

Well, act 4 has a background that also scrolls vertically instead of being still.

Act 3, 5 and 6 only use 1 layer.

With NLMSX, the game asked for disk B.
After inserting it, copy protection worked (not the original version).

@ Wolf: I still have all the levelmaps from Bombaman lying around somewhere. You could load them in Bombed and make screenshots. Nice work for a rainy sunday afternoon. NOT! And besides that. When people see all the maps they would think "Hmmm, I hoped the game would be better later on, but It's not." And nobody would play it anymore.

@ Manuel: Easy? I first have to make images from my disks and for that I need a program, and for that I must search the web for 2 hours and in that 2 hours I could also sit on my couch playing games or something else usefull. So be more convincing please

@ Demonseed: Did you "perform" the trick right? When you remove the disk from the drive BEFORE your power drops to 0 then the drive goes "reuteldereutel" and the game continues without music but also without you going game over. It works on a real MSX and with my original disks (Yeah John, you hate me, I know )
