Hello. I finaly got the turbo-R booting, at played one stage of Galaga. Then the Big Round unit next to the PSU started to smoke, it have been a bit noicy for long time, i also remebered when i used the Turbo-R back in the 90's i Did the same. And age may have damaged it even more.

Its a 25V - 12000uf. It started to smoke, so i quck turned off the power.

Is it normalt this unit fails ? I know from other electronics, that those normaly get bad by age, and need replacement.

I also noticed, it get very hot - at that part, even before it started to smoke.

Or do i have a short cut some where?

yes you can replace with stronger

why you supply damaged ?

normal voltage is 100v check it before burned it totaly

The power suply it self have been replaced by a 220v, long time ago

but will a 35v 15000uf fit the holes? in the mainboard.

The Suply is fine, only that component failed

if is not the same sold wire and deplace it for try

35v 15000µf is ok for replace the 25v 12000µf

this capacitor is for filter supply voltage before regulators

have ou loading PDF files with ST manual because the schema help you directly ?

MSX tR booting and smoking is no good: Don't do that
MSX tR booting and not smoking is better: Try that, longer life time expected.

To be serious... Check out output voltage of the 220V supply. IIRC it should be +11V and -11V, but I might be wrong. Check it from schematics. I've not heard earlyer that any capasitor would smoke in tR.

11V ? i think atleast 14v, since its harder to make a 12v source from 11v than 14v.

I have 3 wires from the Power Suply. i am pretty sure its around 22v or something.

But i think nothing is wrong just the big Capacitor is to old, i found out the sound (noice) didn come from that but from the Suply it self, now i ordered a new one. 25v 15000uf, i hope it fits the holes in the mainboard. For test i tried to put to gether some other caps, diffirent sized, paralles wired. But that didn work - i better wait for the real parts to show up.

The powersuply seems to be ok

I have 2x21v out.

Middle pin + Left pin (21v)
Middle pin + right pin (21v)
Left pin+right pin (42v)

It seems right to me.

This sounds like high to me, but I'm not expert and I could not find anything from the maintenance quide. Maybe someone could measure what it is supposed to come from these pins?

Can the power fail from be from a damaged Diod ? if the Diod is not working maybe that will cause the Capsistor to die ? By the way the computer was playing a game when i startede to smoke, it worked, no problems on screen or sound ? Actually a turbo-r have enough drain so it will work 2-3 seconds after you turn the power off (mine still did, when the capasistor was smoking!). Anyway i looked at http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/mirrors/hanso/service_manuals/panasonicturborstsm.pdf and on page 22 of 47, you can see the power suply, They dont mention how much voltage is needed, but can it be one of the 4 diods that are dead now? Now when i massure on where the big capistore (25v/12000uf) i get nothing at all?

i have replace original "transformateur (in french)" 100v input by 220v 2x15v in 5 turbo-r and no problem since

is the voltage with the secondary no connect on the board

check diods is easy with numeric multimeter but is not 4 diods

is only two diod d1 and d2 for make + 5 v + 12v because double secondary , other are for - 12v

H ---o-----i>i-----o--------- i dont say this value ? = v
H c 15V ~ i
H c i
H ---o---- 0v i
H c i
H c 15V ~ i
H ---o-----i>i-----i

yes mine are the same but its around 20v at pin 3 and 2 (on cn1)
It should not make any diffirence. I just found out i have around 11v if the capasistor is not soldered, i ordered a new one, so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.

capacitor is necessary for filter AC current ~

if is removed you have sinusoidal signal with 2 arch and not D.C. current =

don't remove it
