At our local stores we have the following types of dance mats:

  • with PlayStation-type connector
  • with parallel port connector
  • with USB connector
  • with 2 connectors - USB and PS
  • pads that don't need console or PC to be played - connect them to TV and power adapter and play

Hi !!
I'd love to buy a dance mat to use on the msx.
What stores are you talking about, do you have a link for me ?
thanks

norakomi,
I live in Israel and my local stores should be inappropriate for you.
I think you have to visit the nearest local store in your city.
BTW, how are you going to connect the dance mat to MSX, and which type from the above will suit you better ?

There are (or at least have been) some psx-to-msx converters. I use one to connect a regular playstation controler to my msx. I gues a dancemat will work too, but I never tried it myself.

What's the most convenient mapping for playing Quarth with dance mat ?

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a convenient mapping

I asked about mapping because, e.g., pad's start/select buttons are small and not that easy to press, so they can't be used as replacement for [space] button. Maybe [space] should be mapped twice here and there so you can use the square nearest to the "less busy" foot ?

After looking at the picture at D-Tail's link, I think there should be experienced people that have something to say on the subject.

I havent thought or talked about that at all.
So I have no clue.
Is it possible to get a psx2msx converter these days ?
and what about using the dancemat on the pc (with an msx emulator)
is that a better idea ??
then a dancemat with usb or parallel port connection would do just fine, wouldnt it ?

That's exactly what I do by mapping dance mat buttons to blueMSX 2-button joystick.
My dance mat is connected to PC via USB and is recognized by Windows as a 16-buttons joystick.

Regarding MSX re-arrangements:

Feel free to use these.

There's nothing new; 1:1 re-arrangements.
I could make more "flamboyant" ones if desired.

Aha I see.
So a game like dance revolution is not yet available for msx?
