i usually like to TRY things before i ask other people how to do them (to avoid being annoying)... so foolish me attempted to moddify an SCC cartridge without any advice aside from an online guide

the guide said... the most optimal way to disable the game rom is to add a switch to turn it on and off - i have no interest in playing games on the MSX, i just bought it for the soundchips... so i took the "least optimal" option which is to remove the ROM chip entirely - the guide instructed me to cut the IC off by the legs... pretty destructive and not very clean... i opted to desolder the IC myself

so now im trying to use my modded cart with SCC blaffer NT and the SCC makes no sound... all i hear is the PSG - also in SCC musixx the program says "no SCC present" - im trying this on an MSX turbo-R... the cart used to be "salamander" ... and i tried both cartridge slots - im thinking the konami cart got damaged in the desoldering process... unless someone else has an explaination as to why its not working - anyone know?

~alex

ps - if i really did break the konami cart... does anyone know where i can get one pre-modded or something along those lines?

resolder the chip, it's used to "recognize" a present SCC cartridge.
I've done lotsa SCC modding in the past, can't really remember how. But you found the doc that tells about the "switch". Well just leave out the switch and follow the rest of the guidelines. It'll be a piece of cake (just cutting one or 2 copper lines)

the scc chip work if rom desolded
look the wire is not damaged
you can test signal D/A on resistor plate array

Note that not all (many) SCC software has proper SCC detection routines. The ones in Blaffer are quite bad as well, IIRC.

Idd, it's very likely you didn't break your SCC cart at all, but have tried using it with programs which don't properly detect the SCC. If all you did was desolder the chip and you're pretty sure you didn't damage anything you can assume the software is the issue. Try using your SCC with a program which doesn't look for it but just asks in which slot the SCC is.

Argghhhhh......... you killed an scc cartridge???How could you?
Well i would definetely advice you to get Manuel Pazos's megaflash scc,no need to do custom hacks, you have 512kbytes of ram to load any rom or megarom you want, you can load the custom diskrom and load even disks to it and use it on machines that have no drive.

yeah i dont think i broke it - all i did was desolder the ROM IC - one thing that i did wrong however was i left the ROM chip sitting with a pile of other electronic crap which ended up getting thrown away - so i cant resolder it to the pcb - oops - shouldnt have done my fall cleaning yet ._.

i would get the megaflash scc... except i dont need flash... i only need an SCC cart - so yeah im going to potentially disable another SCC game haha o.o (more affordable for me... after having spent 500 dollars on an MSX turbo-R)

But you need two then? The first one is probably just fine.

Yes, but as we already said, butchering another SCC probably won't help, as most of these problems just have buggy SCC detection.
