| Dual display (MSX, Virtual Reality ready?) using the two VDP's of the MSX computers.

Does anyone know how well the MSX computer would operate with two Video Display Processors?
One is the minimum, the second is optional.
If someone use independent composite outputs ... Would it be possible to use both for text or patter mode !? Imagine, there is head sets that are composite video capable. If someone manage to find one that will accept two composite signals at the same time, it would be Virtual Reality on vintage home computers ... Sure that this only should work with that "optional" 80 columns cartridge with video output!

1) should each VDP have it's own VRAM ?
2) what's wrong with using GFX9000 as a second VDP ?

1º I think that probably, I don't know the exact details of Ademir projects ... There was two "OUT" ports , one was the MSX standard. I believe that the original MSX standard was to use two Video chips, each of them could have their own memory and video output.
2º Why don't ask about it to Sunrise? It would probably work great ... imagine the stunning graphics!!!
Now, I believe that the only thing missing (apart from the helmet and video cartridges) is some people to code the demonstration software ...

Because it is needed to upgrade for MSX2 or use 80 columns and blink table ... Also the MSX-DOS and CPM are rumored to be 80 columns like software. Some televisions could have trouble displaying more than 39 columns, so a monitor was needed to use the full capacities of the MSX2 Video Display Processor. Some 80 columns cartridges also use this VDP into a different video port.
The main display unit is on board, the expansion (80 columns and maybe more colours) is a off-board expansion. There should be more examples of use of two or more processors, like the MSX-Audio standard that was intended to use two audio processors + the main PSG internal chip.

Naah... I suggest buying something like E-D Wired 3D Glasses, cutting the wire and attaching it to MSX joystick port.
This way you can get real 3D without need of additional helmet or extra VDP. It is also more nice to make 3D applications for this kind of setup.

A concept that has proven to be so successful soon to appear on the MSX? Hurray! |

Search youtube for MSX VDU and there you have it: 4 VDPs in 1 MSX. On one monitor, that is...

Adriano already did a dual monitor thing on MSX. Even adapted UZIX to work with two monitors at once.
In one monitor was the normal MSX output, in the other, a 80-column cartridge (we had some in Brazil made by Gradiente, and others - a cartridge that have a VDP inside it just to generate 80 columns on MSX1)
Also, VDU will probably have dual monitor output, but Oazem still going to implement it.

The price, it is sooo "affordable" ...
Should be nice!
Does anyone have one of them to play games?

GFX9000 is also quite dual head, indeed. GFX9000 output on one monitor and the normal V99x8 output on the other. msd's "magic" replayer also makes use of this.

Here is a link to dual screen under Uzix.
It uses 80 columns upgrade cards (VDP 9938).
Similar things could be theoretically done with GFX9000 cartridge, couldn't it?
I'm getting seriously off topic, but these 80 columns cards are indeed quite interesting. They are close to MSX2 upgrades kits for MSX1. It seems some can even be transformed into real MSX2 video upgrade cards: here and here .
Here is the NEOS MSX1 to MSX2 upgrade kit. Quite a similar thing I guess.
IMHO, anything that can help MSX1 taking over its fate is good...
All right, I am totally off topic... I leave. |

As I just said, things like that are *practically* done with GFX9000.

Is there some way to feed the GFX9K output back to the 99x8?, ....mmmm.....maybe using a MSX with video inputs?. That would be great... |

With a Video9000 you can mix the V99x8 and V9990 output.
