Hi all!

I had a MEGA-SCSI working some weeks ago.
Today i have turn on the Turbo-R and ... MEGA-SCSI seems not work
Turbo-R goes to MSX-BASIC.
I don't know what kind of key combinations (GRAPH+????) i need to launch MEGA-SCSI ROM or similar.
Some help? I don't know what's happen .. maybe SRAM has been erased?
How i can recover my MEGA-SCSI?

Thank you people!!

Did you play a game or loaded some diskimages the previous time you used your megascsi? Let's say you were playing Sd snatcher. If you progressed beyond disk 1 and stopped playing, your megascsi remembers from which disk image number you were playing last. So if that was disk 2 and you booted your MSX that diskimage will restart. And since disk 2 isn't bootable you'll get an error (in basic). Other games with non bootable disks will behave more or less in the same way.

In order to start from the first disk of the sequence of disk images you loaded last you should hold the KANA button will booting. Once the LED starts flashing you can push the 0 button on your numeric key pad to load the first diskimage. If you want to get back to MSX DOS you need to hold down GRAPH+INS while booting.

SRAM could be erased but i wouldn't resort to restoring your SRAM unless you're sure that is the case (don't know whether you backed up your sram drive or if you have some important program on it). I could tell you how to do that if your problem isn't resolved with the previous options I gave you...

Also could be that the Lithium battery has run out of juice. But don't remove it unless you have run out of other options, cause removing it will effectively empty you sram drive...

have you a original ese-factory or a self made with a big capacitor ?
if second model capacitor discharge in 3 week and you lost sram memory

have you FDD with install files ?
try
files b:
files c:
if files are present you have lost partition A:
insert FDD in drive and search it files d: e: f: g: h:
in basic
CALL CHDRV ( "x:" ) x is letter of FDD
CALL SYSTEM
CP A:1

the original combinaison of key are :
GRPH + ESC Init table
GRPH + DEL Driver off
GRPH + TAB Scsi reset
GRPH + INS VFD off (Virtual Floppy Disk : if you use EP before )

If you're trapped in a emulated floppy just press GRAPH+INS during boot to disabled it.

If don't work press the small button (rear, left side) during boot to resets MegaSCSI.

But if interface stills "disabled" I think you need to replace the lithium battery that feeds SRAM (yes! it uses SRAM not FlashROM).

Thank you for your help!
Yes, finally my SRAM was erased. I have reinstalled the KERNEL.KNL with MGInst.com and all works fine.

Another question:
Is possible to install MSXDOS 2.41 into MEGA-SCSI SRAM and work with FAT16?
All the MEGA-SCSI tools work fine in FAT16?
Any problem with FAT16?

Thank you.

Somebody has a MEGA-SCSI with 2 or more devices working on time?
What SCSI cable(s) are using? Is a commercial cable or a made-in-home cable?

Just use a SCSI cable with multiple connectors. It's nothing special.

Yes it is possible to install msx dos 2.41 and it should work with FAT16 as well. IIRC fat16 was first developed for megascsi and later adopted for other hd interface(s). Can't really say if it works well with all tools. Never got the urge to repartition my hd and put back all the stuff But sometimes when you create a diskimage you get an file allocation error. A way to get rid of it is to use a programme like improve. And IIRC improve doesn't work well with fat16. So i'd put diskimages on a regular partition or use already existing diskimages.

And I have 3 devices connected to my MEGA SCSI. HD, CD-ROM and Zip drive. As for the cables: since you are connecting SCSI device to SCSI device you can use commercial cables. Just find out what type of SCSI devices you are using to get the right cables.

What program you use for formatting in Fat16? for example ZIP Disks.
Sform-1 and Sform-2 tools of Mega-SCSI only format FAT12 or i'm confused?
Thank you.

sform-1 and sform-2 do indeed only format fat12. I believe you should just use the pc formatting. And make fat16 partitions on it with FAT16. don't know of a program to format them on msx...

i dont't use fat16 with my megascsi because it's easy to change logical partition with Multi-mente
you just push P key and a choise in menu
this function required MMPART.DIR

SFORM1 is for DOS1 only

i have 2 megascsi one original and one made himself
the first have mini connector and i have a cable with big 50 pin scsi i have in PC case : MO540 , syquest 135 , CD rom and a external ZIP100
the second have flat connector 50 pin and i have 50 pin flat cable to connect SY QUEST 135 , SY QUEST 105 and CD rom with a external mini for connect a MO 640 and a ZIP 100
all work fine
i have no HDD because you lost datas if crash

FAT16 is slow!

To format FAT16 disks you need to use a PC (or Mac, or something with a FA16 supported operational system). And don't forget use "CP16.COM" to partition change.
