Hello All,

Anyone can inform me what's the largest Compact Flash card that is supported under Sunrise IDE? I dont want to buy a 4gb one and find out that the maximum supported is 512mb!

Best Regards,

hbarcellos: I assume the maximum size is the same as with the normal IDE interface: 8GB. You can insert larger disks, but only 8GB will be visible. FAT16 restricts maximum partition size to 2GB, using FAT12 you will be able to address a maximum of 32MB on a partition. The IDE interface supports up to (if I recall correctly) 31 partitions. Might be one more or less, but it's more than enough anyways.
I myself have a bunch of FAT12 partitions which I mainly use for boot, work, tools, etc. Furthermore, I have 2 FAT16 partitions for backup, games, music and the like.

Note: this is on a 4.3GB Western Digital IDE hard disk.

Now I'm confused. If the maximum is 31 partition (~), how can NapalM have 992 partitions?
and, whats the maximum size for fat 16 partitions? I know that fat12 is 32mb, but what about fat16?

You assign drive letters to any partition. As D-Tail said, 2GB is the max size of a FAT16 partition.

NapalM said that he has 2 partitions: 1 of 32MB (FAT12) and one of 992MB (FAT16).

Note that it might be wiser to choose your partition sizes somewhat smaller: as the size of a partition increases, so does its cluster size. If I'm right at 2GB for a FAT16 partition, the cluster size will be around 32kB. Which means that a file of 1 byte actually gets blown up a 32-thousandfold. At 32MB for a FAT12 partition, it's the same thing.

Anyone tried the DOS2 that comes with OCM with the sunrise device? It might be able to handle a straight FAT16 format ?

To avoid confusion , that 512 mb is de flashrom and has nothing to do with the capacity of the flashcard you gonna use and is indeed 8GB , IF YOU WANT to keep your diskdrive(s)

Um, isn't the flashROM 512kB? (not mb.) Anyway, it's clear.

8GB!

Why should 8GB be the maximum? Because of 4x2GB FAT16 partitions?
In general there is not such a limitation on hardware side. I use a 16GB CF card (formatted in FAT32) on my MSX without any problems.
