Well, to end all mystery, I think to be have been confused with the MbWave for OPL4.

So I guess getting some extra RAM for the memory is in order.

It's not that bad after all when you know the limits... You anyway want more than one sample, so 32KB limit is not bad and when you cut your samples with care, you can make sure that they start from "zero-level". (Cutting them otherway would cause cracks and pops anyway.)

Actually I've had some fun today playing with this The bad thing about ADPCM-samples is that you can't cut them where you like after conversion. You need to make sure you cut them before.

Also implementing support for some PC-program should not be that hard using the C-sources (second link I copy/pasted)

ah, so basically if you cut them the way you want it on pc, then it should work with that adpcm conversion thing ?

mmm, I managed to slap something like a msx dos disk together from extracted .dsk files.
however I can't open this first link you sent nyyrikki, apparently it's some packed msx format ?
I don't know what files to put on the disk for doing the conversion : / (prolly because I can't open
the .pma file)

Yes

As MoonBlaster is really not sample music maker by default, here are few tips and tricks that I've learned during last few hours hitting my head to wall: (For sample editing I used GoldWave on Windows.)

- Take the voice you want to use on MoonBlaster
- Start MSX-emulator and make the MoonBlaster to loop one FM-tone.
- Adjust the sample playback rate untill it sounds good with the FM-tone.
- Resample the result to 8KHz
- Split the sample to Start, loop and ending (you propably want custom lenght samples) Make sure that all the cut points are in "zero-level"
- Save those samples to *.PCM (PCM, 8KHz, 8bit, Unsigned, mono) (this format might be called .SND or .RAW in your editor, you may also use .WAV but you might need to remove some header/footer data)
- Use the PCM2ADP converter
- REN *.ADP *.MBS
- Load *.MBS to MoonBlaster and save the result as samplekit
- Try to have fun

Easy as riding a bicycle (without chains)

Yes, (actually originates from CP/M)

For MSX: Google for UNPMA or PMEXT
For Windows & DOS: http://www.msx.fi/nyyrikki/pc.html

You have to remember, that when MSX-Audio was new and cool thing PC-users could not even dream about AdLib or other modern wonders as they did not exist.

well, it is a pretty fun thing I must admit... quite a lot of features too (built in mike, mike in, line in etc).
and having a sampler - fm synth and midi thing all in one for an 8 bit machine is exceptional I guess for it's time.
(apart from the fact the same chip was used as a c64 add on cart)

And even MIDI ports!

...Which didn't do much, but anyhow. It had nice cozy pictures on it.

I'm not sure what you mean... You can enter Voice selection by pressing F4. When you are in Voice List, you can press F3 to select "NMS 1205 Midi" as keyboard.

The MIDI is fully functional, but you need to use software that makes use of them

Hmmm... what does the sample treshold function do ?
I understand frequency etc... and how do you select
a new sample once you made one ? i switched to sampleblock 2
but it doesn't seem to work properly
