Hello:
Some time ago I've managed to create some wallpapers for SymbOS with Symstudio. The problem is that now I am trying to do some new backgrounds, but I never manage to do full screen wallpapers or 512x212 backgrounds. Have you any guide step-by-step of how to do symbos backgrounds?
Yours,

Sorry it seems I didn't extend the export function properly when I updated the last time. I will attempt to fix this this week

Ok, I just made a quick and dirty tool for making the backrounds... Don't expect any error messages if you have write protected disk, disk full etc. It also does not yet look nice, but I'll fix it some day I have more time... I now had just few hours free...
Here is quick how to:
- Download BMP2MSX from http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~hra/software/bmptomsx/index.htm
- Download symbos.pll
- Convert the picture to SCREEN 7 with custom palette. (Use Load Palette to load symbos.pll) Here are the settings that I found pretty good working:
- Now download sc72sgx.com and use it to convert the result to SymbOS (MSX-DOS program).
Usage: sc72sgx filename.sc7
Output: filename.sgx
- Have fun... |

@wolf: Ok, here is "no cheat" version. Now can you say from bottom of your heart, that this gives better understanding, what it looks like on real MSX?

Just because your PC can't display correct aspect ratio, or is there some more logical explanation?
How should I do the ratio change? With or without scanlines?
I can tell you, that no matter what I do, it will not look exactly like in MSX monitor. Trust me: If you take 512x512 picture and zoom it to fullscreen on PC, then take MSX monitor with same size and put the same picture next to the PC version, you don't have to be expert to see that they don't look same.
Sure the JPG adds artifacts that do not belong to the picture and I'm sorry about that.
How ever I think that as long as there is no intentionally added something like HQ2X or other effect that does not exist in real MSX monitor/TV it is quite impossible to say what kind of the screenshot should be. I took the screenshot from configuration that I use on my emulator. Why I use this configuration is because it reminds me of MSX screen (on my PC) This is why I don't think this is cheating.
Maybe it would be best to take real camera and take real screenshots. This is just quite hard and time consuming compared to using emulator Luckily modern digital cameras are desinged so, that the result looks quite authentic on PC-monitor.

Ok, I polished the converter a bit...
New usage instructions:
SC72SGX <input file> <output file>
... download link is still the same...
