Cool, is this a conversion? If so from what?
The graphics look stunning. Are you using one of those fancy new graphics converters?

On youtube there is a video but video compression alter the real aspect of the images. Can anyone post some screen shots?

Here it is, one screenshot I took a long time ago
(sorry, I'm rushing to finish another game in time for MSXRio, so I didnt have time to take more screenshots or setup website for the game yet)

The game is a "kind of a port" from the PC game. Although I changed some stuff, since the PC version suffered from two things: You couldnt understand anything in the game if you didnt play parts 1 and 2 - and the map was rather confusing (ex: you exited to the left from room A into room B, but when you go back to the west you ended up on room C - and if you go to the east on room C you appear on room D!)

So dont even try using the same solution from the PC version on the MSX one... although most of stuff is the same, room arrengements and some other stuff are different.

The only thing that bothers me though, is that the game has no sound whatsoever... but I guess that's normal on graphic adventures...

Just remembered, look also at the photos I took from MSX Rio 2007, pictures 21-24 show more rooms from the game

just watched the video and must say... EXCELLENT GRAPHICS!!!!!!!!!!!!

It´s really fantastic what one can do using screen2!!!!!!!

Really different when comparing that Level 9 stuff... (and that looked nice too...)

Nice to hear someone ports text adventures for MSX-1!!

Another nice thing is that it is so fast. Are graphics loaded from disk? Or is it a big ROM? How is this working, SLotman?
Those old Level 9 games seemed to have all graphics in some highly compressed format in memory. But that obviously took time to decompress.

I was thinking exactly same. I guess ROM? (based my guess to the fact that all MSX´ers don´t have disk drives)

Anyway, level 9 graphics took a while to draw, that´s why it was a bit confusing to see FAST graphics on MSX text adventure!

It loads from disk. the game is all made in Pascal, so no ROM. Of course it takes a little longer on a real msx with floppies (but not too much longer), and that was captured with emulators. But from HD, the speed is the same.

Each screen is about 4k - just the patterns/colors used on the top 2/3 of screen - tilemap is the same for all screens, so it's pretty fast to load, even without compression.

This was meant to be a "text adventure engine", but since some people just like to "toss garbage" at developers, I decided to cut back the work (which easily would take more 2 or 3 years to have all tools done, all script parses done, etc) and just finish this game and forget about the "engine".

Just to show the "main" tool (sorry, it's mostly in Portuguese):

It allows to add/remove/update rooms, add scripts when entering/exiting rooms, and to add/edit/remove texts used in the game.

I still needed to create a character editor (to place characters on rooms, each with their on script), and a "command" editor. Together with a tool to make the graphics/fonts for the game, one would be able to make a graphical adventure for MSX without coding skills (well, it would still need "byte-scripting" skills heh)

But as I said, last year I lost my temper with some people, and now this project is dead - just the game was finished - by "brute force", so some parts of the game are scripted, while others are hardcoded in the game.

(oh yeah, and I got time to write this since the game I'm making for MSXRio is like 90% done )

I've always liked Sokoban
The titlescreen is kinda empty, maybe you could use that to add credits to Thinking Rabbit, Namco (Boxyboy titlescreen), and to people/companies you got some levels from

Slotman, there have always been people who don´t care and appretiace that other people work hard to give everybody something nice to make people happy, garbage tossers seem to think, that if your work is not what THEY want to have, then they think that nobody should be happy then and start to make that hard worker feel bad and try to make him/her to stop his/her work as soon as possible.

They are people who´s own life is not too exciting to talk about, and so they get their only fun for just making other people unhappy.

So, just don´t care about what garbage tossers are saying, as there are LOTS OF PEOPLE who surely like to see the results of your hard working again and again!!!!

Just played your Sega port "Mikie" for the very first time (after the first and only time over twenty years ago on Commodore 64) and I really liked it!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!

I would be so happy if you would offer us this wonderful program so we can make our text adventures.I always wanted to make some text adventures but was never able since it was not easy to do it.
