Symbian emulator?

Basically yes, almost all 3650/7650 software runs as-is on 6600, they are binary compatible. Some APIs are "emulated" on the 6600 to make it compatible with the older version -- the sound system for example (the old API still works but in reality the whole architecture of the multimedia subsystem has been changed).

There are some exceptions where binary compatibility has been broken, those are described in a document that is available at Forum Nokia.

Personally, I can't believe the whining on the Forum Nokia discussion boards where some people are insisting that the WAP/MMS/GPRS doesn't work. RTFM... everything works on my 6600 =)

BTW, perhaps someone could make a cool MSX "skin" for the 6600 UI =)

Yes, I know. I'm trying to speed it up and I've already improved it but it's not at the same level with 7650/3650 yet.

And what comes to other Symbian OS 6.1 based programs, usually if they don't work correctly on 6600 it's because the programs have been written badly or assuming too much about the environment (something like if you consider a Windows program that assumes that Windows has been installed to C:Windows directory).

I don't know exactly why fMSX is running a bit slower on 6600, but apart from the sound support I think it's running fast enough.

Having heard all of this, I better remain with my 3650 for now (anyway no money to buy the 6600 ). I think that Symbian OS is the worse in operating systems... But is the only one standard for mobile devices. I think that the Microsoft Phones with Windows CE can be a serious competitor if Symbian Ltd doesn't enhance the stability and architecture of the Symbian OS.

I'd prefer MSX OS.

I was playing King's Valley II on my 3650 and needed to input some passwords. How do I do that?!!? In the keyboard config, every ASCII code is configged as some mysterious '0X0046' code or something. But how do I input such codes?

I can't even plot an 'A' on the screen in BASIC, actually.

Latok, you must simple redefine that msx key to point to a 3650 key, no matter what is the 0X0046, simply change it. To change just select the msx key and hit the 3650 keypad, then press the key 3650 key what you like to point to.

Uops, I hope that you can undersand me.

Uh, thx Karloch. Of course I figured that out. But erhm. The Nokia3650 only has a limited amount of keys. How can I input 26 letters alone already? I understand this simply isn't possible? What does those '0X0046' like codes mean, then?

I wonder if we can connect a bluetooth keyboard to the Series60 phones. And why isn't there already available a chatboard for these Nokia phones? There really is a need for this.

In the default keyboard config, MSX keys that do not have a corresponding key on the phone are simply mapped to corresponding Symbian OS keys meaning that IF the phone would have a full QWERTY keyboard, you could use it with the emulator... The mysterious 0x0041 for A is simply the key code (hex 41, actually the unicode letter 'A').

Why I'm using hex numbers instead of something more understandable? I didn't want to give names to non-existing keys on the phone. But I can do that in the next release, if you wish. Then it would have mapping 'A' for MSX key 'A', even if there is no such key on the phone.

BTW, it should be possible to reconfigure the keyboard from the emulator's pause menu, so even if it is painfully slow, you CAN enter any letters by just remapping the MSX keys when you can't find the letter you need...

Also, there is the 'keyboard macros' feature on my to-do list -- to be implemented sometime. Perhaps it would help... once it's available

Thanks jr. Ah well, I will continue my internet search quest for either a chatboard or a bluetooth keyboard with the right Series60 drivers....
