If I understood correctly, there will be two versions of fMSX/S60 soon a version A optimized for 3650/7650/N-gage and a version B optimized for 6600. As this thread is quite long already maybe it's a good thing to start two new separate threads about these versions?

You would fragmentate the discussion if you do this. I vote against I'm sure 'many' people have a direct link to this specific forumthread in which all the info regarding the development of this emulator is being discussed. What's wrong with 18 pages of info? I love it

But hey, we can't stop jr (or anyone else for that matter) from starting another thread, now can we?

Well, I was thinking... perhaps errors in the 6600 version occur that don't occur in the 3650/7650/Ngage version (or the other way around). I don't know how different these versions are going to be in the end (considering the fact that the 6600 has an updated OS with extended possibilities)... and, perhaps also quite important: most suggestions, features and problems mentioned in this thread will get outdated, as most of them are already implemented.

Then again, it was just a suggestion

Thanks jr. Ah well, I will continue my internet search quest for either a chatboard or a bluetooth keyboard with the right Series60 drivers....

If you find something let us know!

In other news MAME has been ported today to Series60 phones! I tried it onmy 6600 and works very good. Download it from here --> http://www.harmonicode.com/EMame/

It's great to see more and more emulators ported to Symbian! Now we have fMsx (MSX), GoBoy (GameBOY), Frodo (C64), ZXBoy (Spectrum) and now MAME! Awesome!!

So, can anybody compare MAME & Jr's fmsx playing the same MSX games ?

If I understand correctly, MAME on Series 60 is very alpha with many bugs to be fixed.
But anyway, would be interesting to compare the performance and sound quality.

I don't think this MAME port for Series60 mobile phones emulates MSX. MESS does, but MAME doesn't. That's why I made it a 'Related' newspost and not an 'Emulation' newspost...

We're getting there though. Sooner or later, I think fMSX for Series 60 phones won't be the only MSX emulator for Symbian OS....

Indeed -- I wouldn't mind having a "more advanced" MSX emulator for S60

I somehow got too enthusiastic about changing the emulator menu to use the S60 UI, that's what's been keeping me busy lately with the emulator... well, at least the little time I have had to spend in the development, that is.

I wanted to add some new emulation features but... anyways, I hope to finish it very soon, the code is almost done and now I just need to add the content to the menus. This also then has a very visible difference between 6600 and others because in 6600 the emulator menu UI supports the new skinning system completely Another point in doing this is to get rid of the menu bugs as a bigger part of the menus will be handled by the OS instead of the emulator code. (In case you haven't noticed, there is still a bug in the file selector in the 0.96 version that crashes the emulator in a certain use case).

Hum, I liked so much the 0.96 interface, and I think that is better to use your own interface besides the Series60 one, just because it would make the emulator more portable to other mobiles such as the Ericcson P800 or so.

But well, you are the developer, you must know much better than me, what is better and what is worse. Just keep the execelent work ^^

I think it would be nice if the fast mode could show the center of the screen instead the top left corner. This feature would be great to play most games.

Karloch, I understand your point but I'm not thinking about porting the emulator to any other OS, at least not right now. And if someone else is interested, the fMSX/Unix source code is freely available to work with... I know that people tend to dislike UI changes because they are already familiar with the old UI. But I'll try anyway

Kote, I'll put a mental note to myself to implement your idea and go beyond it a little bit - wouldn't it be nice if you could adjust the position of the screen?

leonid, I'm sorry but I didn't quite understand what it is that you mean...?

Small update: I've got things more or less done for fMSX/S60 v0.97 now, only missing thing from the UI is tape rewind, but I'll leave that to v0.98 along with some other changes. I've managed to squeeze some extra cycles away again, sound is now okay for most MSX1 games on raw and fast rendering modes also on the Nokia 6600...! The sound system is still a bit unstable but I'm hoping to wrap things up anyway tomorrow and upload the files.

BTW, I've been thinkg about possibly bringing the system ROMs back to the packet to get rid of some problems that the users have -- would you see that as a good thing or is it better to leave things as they are?

jr: if I understand 1eonid correctly, he wants to play in kind of full-screen mode, not in a window (the second part of the question is still not clear ...)

AFAIK, this will take too much CPU power to implement a resizable window or fullscreen mode, am I right ?

Regarding system roms: what about CBIOS ?
