| Well, you know what, there seems to be a fatal bug in the MSX ROM management code that I rewrote recently. The reason for your crash is that the disk ROM loading fails. I fixed the bug and since this really is a critical one I'm releasing v1.06 today to fix this.

Woww, thanks for the quick-fix! It's perfecltly working now Great jr!!

| And yes, it would be possible to generate sound at 16kHz (on devices that support it, of course). I'll put that on my to-do list for something to consider in the future.
|
Ok, thanks for putting it in your to-do list
Looking forward to get nicer sound from the emulation. Btw, I recommend headsets for playing, sounds are a bit nicer than the speaker is

Also thought that in the first place... But seems that the main speaker has to be disabled manually, or there's a flag in the multi media server indicating the routing-mode. The headset is recognized by the OS (indicated by a small headset-icon), and sound's also coming out from it, but the built-in speaker doesn't mute.
AFAIK, only few 3rd party software support that routing mechanism like Nokia does... Perhaps it's an undocumented feature? There's nothing about that in the SDK (v1.2), and google couldn't help me either Still trying to find a hint on that in FAQs and other open-source softwares.
Found out a strange behaviour in the sound-emulation (not a critical bug): In some games the sounds (noise channel) are not emulated correctly.
For instance the main menu of FireHawk: When the game title appears, noise sound is generated. After that, the noise-channel doesn't get disabled, but instead the PSG is still outputting the noise. Newly introduced bug while porting fMSX for Series60? |

Allright, for some reason I understood that you meant that the audio was not played through the headset at all =) Yes there is a flag that tells the system how the application prefers the audio to be routed, I'll have to experiment with it a bit to see how to get this working properly...
Was that noise problem only introduced with v1.06 or was it there before?

Seems the noise problem is new here. I've installed older versions of fMSX/S60 (e.g. v1.04) , and there wasn't a problem at all, because the noise wasn't audible at all there. In the latest version, it is. ...But as said before, the noise-channel stays active.
Furthermore, I've run another test with "Konami's Ping Pong":
IIRC there was always a sound-problem there when hitting the ball. Sound get's a bit disorted, a PSG-emulation bug. Now, in this version, that issue's fixed.
Hope it'll help you tracking down the bug |

It seems there is a bug in the original fMSX PSG envelope frequency calculation code which is causing the "noise" in Fire Hawk to stay on. When porting the code to fMSX/S60 I've also ported the bug I changed the code and the noise stops now... I'm not sure if it now works as it should, though I'll include the fix in the upcoming v1.07 anyway. |

Today I got my 6260 and first thing was installing fMSX 2.06b
I managed to get sounds working with Aleste2 about 2 minutes and after that the emulator crashed. (I got all sound problems described in FAQ) After that I've not been able to hear any sounds from fMSX. I already reinstalled the emulator, but still all sounds are gone. Any ideas???

First, make sure the emulator is not still running in the background (check the task list). If it is, kill it. If not, then I guess at least rebooting the phone should do the trick. If the sound is looping and/or cracking it means that the system is having performance problems and usually it's also a prewarning that the emulator is about to crash and you should use a bigger frame skip, different rendering mode or display rotation.

Nice to hear the bug's fixed I'll test the new version with some other games then when you've released it, so you'll know for sure whether the PSG's now emulated correctly |

I was just wondering: my phone subscription is about to end, and I'm interested to what phone is the best to play fMSX/S60 on (fluently, that is ). Of course, I could acquire a Sony Ericsson P910, but that's far too much out of my budget. If you could help me out on that (presumably I need a cell phone with a lot of MHz ), I'd be mighty grateful. |

=) D-Tail, it's difficult to know without really trying the phones out because there are no HW specs available for the phones. I'm putting my hopes on the upcoming Nokia 6630. When it's available I'll replace my 6600 with it and see if there's any improvement in the performance. BTW, there is a separate web site (www.series60.com) that has a Series 60 device catalog (I don't know how complete it is).

Hmmm... I was about placing my bids on a 6600, but I'd wait for a little time then. If you're convinced the 6630 is better, I'd go for that one ^_^

Mental note: the 3650 does need a little less frameskipping than a 6600!
