It would be comfortable to see the time of the latest forum update at the frontpage (per article ofcourse!)...

hmmmm.... interesting feature, but quite hard to accomplish without making the right block look a lot worse. I'll play a bit with it on the test-server to see how it'll look.

Can you add a smiley then at a topic which has a new post since the last time a user visited MRC? (might look better, compared to placing the time) |

I can use colours for that. [bright white, light grey]

Could it be done with those 'hints' or whatever they're called, like on the left if I place the mousepointer on 'MSX Forums' there appears a box with 'discuss anything blablabla'? |

Why would you wanna know the time? You can just check the forum index, look at the forums with '!' next to it and look at the time.

Because I'm a lazy person, and I always enter the resource center through the frontpage. This way I don't have to click on the 'msx forums' link to see anything has changed...

well, I think we shouldn't waste bandwith and I'm quite afraid people will (auto)refresh the frontpage just to see if there are new forum posts. You can use email notification for that. Or the forum index.
