I think the performance issue is a greater argument in advantage of the HDD then the smaller, simpler, silence argument for the CF is. In my opinion the CF is the best option when mobility is a great issue. In all other cases a SCSI (not IDE) HDD and interface is the option.

Why still use SCSI when you can use SD cards? The interface is so much smaller and cheaper to use / buy.
I can sell you an SD interface for 55 euros incl shipping to Canada.
Have a look at my website for more info http://members.quicknet.nl/evanson
Also sunrise is out of CF interfaces so that is no option ... |

When the performance of a SD Interface would be better on a turbo R on r800 dram mode then a Novaxis or Mega -SCSI interface in the same mode than would it be a great alternative for me. But regarding the speeds published on your website it isn't faster.
Also I think it is a very nice product and I'm considering buying one, but I have one question: Does it support fat16 partitions? And if it does will the be readable with a Windows pc. Or is just the system partition (max. 23mb) readable with a Windows pc?

fat16 is supported especially handy on slot 2. Then you have 2gb at your disposal.
The system partition is readable by windows as a normal drive, the rest of that disk is not however you can load disks using windows and the diskman util. I use that a lot to load the card full of games and programs.
If you have more questions you can also email me, I can then setup a Q&A page on my site.
Maybe that helps a lot |

How about 1 big partition of max 2Gb. Is that enough?

SDHC cards are not supported and fat16 also has its limits...
Dont know what you want to store on it but for classic msx use it should be more than sufficient

mp3, eva files etc... For classic use it is sufficient indeed. But I also see it won't work in an expanded slot. That's a pity because my turbo R accepts my GF9K only in a primary slot and in the other one is the slotexpander situated. This is a power supply issue. Do you think you can get it to work in an expanded slot in the (near) future?

Good question, however you might get the thing to work in slot x.0 from the expander.
Sharksym is the creator of the bios and I asked this last year already. Hope he will put this in his latest rom version. As he is working on 4.0
Otherwise it will help to get the source of the rom but I don't know if he will share that...

Thanks for all the input guys. I know alot of people support the flash drive camp with classic micros, but I personally prefer the feel of a nice external hard disk. I have a CF interface for my Apple IIGS, and it's good and all but I don't like it as much as, say, my MyIDE for my Atari XEGM. I'm going to be getting the Sunrise IDE, and eventually the Moonsound and GFX9K as well.

I couldn't agree more. And remember IDE is good... SCSI is the best |

Yeah I like scsi as well, and I have a large supply of small capacity scsi-1 and scsi-2 drives, but getting the interfaces is difficult. I'm going to probably try getting one through one of those japanese proxy buyers that open up the world of japanese products to foreigners. By the way, I'm also getting an upscan converter. Here's the link to it, I'll let you know how it is when it arrives. Does anyone have any experience with this model that can tell me about the quality?
