Hey there, I've just been in contact with the guy doing the translation of Dead of the Brain 1 and 2 for the PC Engine Super CD-Rom, and after telling me he had no plans for an MSX translation, he said that he would be open to offering help and the English and French scripts to someone who was willing to take up the MSX project. Well, here's an open casting call! Fellows! Coders! Lend me your ears! Hast thou ever wished to play this game, yet been stopped short by the strange squiggles where the words should be? Well, help me do something about it! Who's with me? Post here or message me at conrad (dot) russo (at) gmail (dot) com.

Do you know if the script for Dead of the Brain is the same on PC Engine and MSX or at least mostly the same? Just to know how much translation work is needed with a provided script. Also, how far along is that script?

As far as I know, the pc engine version is a straight port, all they did is put dead of the brain 1 and dead of the brain 2 on one disk, but each game is exactly the same. As for how far along the script is, the French version is done, the English version is currently being translated, and will be available to us when it's finished (hopefully not too long).

Well regarding translating discrepancies and or differences in both versions I could have helped. Apparently there are none. Coding I couldn't do to save my life so that's out. Perhaps there are others who can help you better than I can.

Well if it turns out that I'm wrong and there is in fact extra translation work to be done, I'll let you know. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong, since I only know a few words of japanese. I am just going on what I know about the game. Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if we need your help! Thanks again man.

Is there really NO coders who want to help with this project? I'm skilled but I can't do this alone, I've never done a project like this before, neither have I written code for the MSX before, but I have experience with similar platforms and Z80 assembler, so I'm not going into this blind. Can no one offer their experience on this project?

I'll offer my services to help you. I'm new to the MSX but coded with the Z80 before (Gameboy Color) and have experience with translation hacking (multiple systems, currently focusing on the PCE but interested in branching out on the MSX). I also know Dave as well (one who's doing the DotB translation for the PCE) so if we need anything I can hit him up (and I'm also helping out a bit as well). Email me at esperknight@yahoo.com if your still interested in hacking this.
