@Bastiaan: V9990 and Franky use different ports, while TMS99xx and V99x8 chips all use the same ports. So for V9990 and Franky it is not a matter of detecting which VDP is present, but to detect whether a specific VDP is there or not. In other words, if you find any hardware responding to the Franky ports, you can assume it's a Franky cart.
