I am waiting for Compass 2.0. The main new feature is already implemented... An I/O monitor.

I'd also like to know how can this feature be implemented?
The only way I could think is that Compass should execute all asm instructions step by step intercepting all I/O related opcodes, but this would greatly reduce performance.

Actually is there even a screenshot available about Compass? I've heard about this program many times during the years and it would be nice to see a picture.

I'm using GEN80 from DEVPACK 2 when I code on MSX and it has been working very well for my purposes.

I think this project died because they tried to put everything to one packed and it was just too big project to handle. IIRC they even implemented some sort of text editor to be used together with compiler.

The I/O monitor in Compass 2.0 is the same as the memory monitor, but instead of showing a frame of the main memory, it shows 256 numbers corresponding to the values read from all the I/O ports, updated in real time. I saw it working in a beta several years ago.

It is not difficult to implement. Simply, when you are in the I/O monitor screen, all 256 ports are continuously being read, and the values in the screen are appropriately updated.

But again, the question is: what is the "legal" status of Compass 1.2?

Maybe you should contact Jon de Schrijder, who still occasionally programs on it... See some Bussum photo of last year.

Especially for NYYRIKKI I created this page:
home.scarlet.be/~dhran/compass-info/
It is an adapted version of an old compjoetania tng page, with some extra screenshots (from the version I still use) and a slightly adapted text.

Jon De Schrijder, who is the developer of Compass 2.0, keeps track of the buyers list. The latest version is #1.2.09 iirc
So if you want to obtain a copy you can always refer people to him.

In case someone is interested... Compass is still on sale (v.1.2.09) for 20€ You can buy it from Jon...

When/if Compass 2.0 will someday appear the upgrade to that version will be free of charge.

I must say that I'm impressed, this looks like really nice development tool...

I already got my licensed version by e-mail and now I'm waiting for a real disk by snail mail.
