I thought it was great! It takes a minute or so to really see the effect right, but it's pretty realistic

good job

And another nice entry: Sneeu by JP Grobler. Did you check it out already? Don't forget to have a look at the source code as well..

The TXT states it's the first 'real' demo of JP Grobler, and he said he got a bit confused. JP, maybe some of our forum visitors can clear some things up for you? All you have to do is ask...

Guyver, thanks.

About Sneeu. I think it's a very cool demo. Bit hard to see the actual snow movement since all flakes are removed before they were on the screen again. Quite a nice scroll with many snow-related jokes.

I got flattered when I took a peek at the source and one of the routines I used in my snowfall challenge was copied from its source. Though the routine directly following it is the routine to calculate the position on SCREEN 2 so it's not necessary for this SCREEN 5 demo. Nonetheless it's a quite good demo for a first effort on MSX itself. Well done!

Still need that GFX artist

...ah, what the heck, my damn demo doesn't work anyway, I'll stick to PC development, that's much better

Wow, fader.. you give up early. I expected more of you. Come on man, give it a go once again. Ask for help (and a GFX artist) on our forums. You'll probably get more attention in a separate forum thread though.

Shh, between us, I really didn't give up, I just wanted to camouflage my desperate begging for a GFX artist, DUH!

edit: WHAT FORUM?

if loading will not work like it should. You should check if you SAVED it the right way, check the file. IF you're sure of its content.. check the loader.
your problem is a bit hazy, could you give us an example? (put some source code here would help) show us the loader for example...

HI

I am going on holiday this afternoon and will not be able to do any more msx coding before Jan 5th.

So here are an idea for a snowfall entry:

Make a BIG scroller (64 bit text) and let is snow inside the text.

I do not believe it should be difficult:
  • Draw the letters with outline in a solid colour (eg white) 64 bits or bigger
  • Inside the letters use 3 diferent colours these will be used for the snow effect (not white)
  • Set the3 colours used on the inside in the palette to black 0,0,0. So that only the outline is visible
  • Do your scroller & textmessage
  • Whilst scrolling change one colour (of the 3 colours used on the inside) at a time to white in the palette.
  • Repeat the colour change for the snow effect, timing have to be worked out not to have a blur.

It should look nice!

64 pixels is just a font of 8x8 sized characters, I wouldn't call that big

And what if he meant 64 pixels in height?

By the way, I'd appreciate some snowfall demo's with some music, people!

Yes, yes, working on the music. Just watched Amadeus, director's cut to get more inspiration flowing.
Ok, next is Confutatis. I ended in F major, so it must start in A minor... :|
